New veteran capes = higher account price?

Do you guys think it's fair that people, while selling their accounts, raise the price on their account just because it has a Veteran cape? Now don't get me wrong, sure a 5 year old account means something, but it has little or no effect towards the account overall. It's not as important to the game, whilst a low-digit Steam account really does mean something.

The account just has to have been created over 5 years ago. That's all. I have several accounts as low as level 20 and as high as level 88 that were made back in '04-'05, but that doesn't and shouldn't raise the selling price of them. I believe that account sellers are abusing the Veteran cape for their own benefit by raising the prices of their accounts.

Just from browsing the Market section, you can see quite a few examples of this. Thoughts?

 

I agree with you too overall, it's really up to the buyers, if the buyers care then they will pay the extra for the cape, and if they don't they will not buy the accounts for the extra price and sellers will soon realize this, and stop selling accounts with veteran caps for extra money. I think it's dumb to sell for TOO MUCH extra just for the cape, but if it means a lot to buyer then they might pay extra, although I doubt many people really care.
The greedy sellers will realize sooner or later :]

 

That's like saying the same about all the scarves and holiday items..

In reality, people like the aesthetics of it.

 

Maybe they want to brag about it so they show that cape and raise the price couse it is 5 years old
but i of-course do not accept to raise the price ..

He's saying they were around for some of the first RS2 holiday items, and have probably been getting them since they started.

IE: 5 years PLUS of holiday items on the account, which is undoubtedly rare seeing as how many people quit that were old players, when they removed the wilderness.

 

i have a TON of garbage accounts with vet capes that i'm selling. i'm not "abusing" the fact that the accounts are 5 years old. i'm not raising the price either. i'm just trying to get a SMALL amount for them.

and regarding the xmas scarves, how is that not an appropriate response? OLD accounts have scarves. OLD accounts have vets. i think its a valid argument. scarves have no effect either? its just for aesthetics.

also, the veteran cape SHOULD raise the value of your account, seeing as its an item that not everyone can obtain. i see no reason why people shouldn't try to get money from 5+ year old accounts. no one is abusing anything dude.

It would add some desire to the account but realistically people would only pay five dollars more for an account with a veterans cape. It is purely cosmetic and has no good stats.

Just think of it like a fine wine, with age comes price.

 

Capes still take 5 years to get, it's an extra asset on the account and therefore should reflect on the price.

 

Not necessarily, actually it's quite the opposite of half wine. More and more of these 5 year veteran capes are actually coming into the game, with time, it'll be extremely common.

 

Alright, I see that people are "upset" by the comment I made earlier. I just believe that scarves and capes don't add any monetary value to an account. Sure it has scarves (my level 45 has all scarves), but what's the point of it? There's no value in it, unlike a Christmas cracker or H'ween mask.

 

yes i agree with that. but AT THE MOMENT. there are only a number of veteran capes in the game, just like there are only a number of scarves. in time though, the number of veteran capes will increase while scarves increase. my argument was for the present though, not the future. i see no reason why this is hard to understand.

 

Scythe/Bunny ears accounts seem to be raising prices of accounts. I think these probably will too, people generally pay for extra things such as these because of its novelty.
