White people are not to blame for slavery.

I'm sorry, but it makes my blood boil when black people blame white Americans for slavery. This is just one of the many double standards that black people love to ignore. For this reason, racial equality is a joke, and will never happen, because black people say "treat us equally", yet expect special treatment at the same time.

Even if we ignore the fact that this happened hundreds of years ago, and nobody alive today has anything to do with slavery, they're so quick to forget that their ancestors are just as responsible.

White people didn't just head over to Africa, force the poor little Africans onto ships, and subject them to a life of slavery. While that might have occurred, the more common thing was Africans selling other Africans into slavery.

That's preposterous, you say? Well, what about the fact that slavery had existed in Africa LONG before the Europeans (the "evil white people") came over there? In fact, I remember reading a statistic that at one point, 1/3 of the African population was enslaved.

Europeans tried using Native American slaves, but they ended up dying from disease or escaping (since they were being enslaved on their native lands, which they knew the layout of), so they started buying African slaves, as they were being sold for cheap. Once again, these slaves were captured by Africans, from rival tribes, and sold to the Europeans. They sold their own people into slavery, for cheap.

Let's fast forward to the future now. How many plantations full of black slaves do you see nowadays? I'm guessing not a lot of them. Now what about Africa? Definitely not a continent that's plagued by war and disease, with genocides and ethnic cleansing being a common occurrence? Not to mention, slavery still existing? Definitely not. Damn, those white people are so evil.

Keep in mind one thing.. I have nothing against black people (and other minorities, I'm Hispanic myself). What I do despise are people who play the race card at any opportunity they get. I was reading an article on ESPN about how a [black] football player was driving 40 MPH over the speed limit (If I recall correctly, he was going close to 100). A police officer tried to pull him over, and he tried to elude the cops. Eventually, the police caught up to him, and found that not only was he way over the BAC limit, but his car smelled like weed, and he had quite a large amount of marijuana on him. I browsed the reader posted comments on the article, and was shocked to see comments such as "The cops pulled him over because they're racist" or "If he was white, he wouldn't have been pulled over". Really? The fact that he was going double the speed limit, tried to evade arrest, was drunk as hell, and had a ton of weed on him isn't a problem at all?

Another example is at my last job. One of my co-workers was an AWFUL employee. He would routinely show up late to work, sometimes showed up high, never wanted to do any work, was rude to customers, and usually left before his shift was over, without finishing what he needed to do, forcing other people to pick up his slack. After a few months of doing this, being warned countless times, being written up continuously, and not changing his work ethic, he was fired. After being fired, he had the audacity to call everyone there racist, and tried suing the place for discrimination. While I understand this is one example, and anecdotes mean nothing, how are we supposed to treat black people equally, when we run the chance of this happening? In fact, chances are .. if he was white, he would have been fired much sooner. I have a feeling my boss kept him there, as he didn't want to seem like he was racist.

tl;dr - Africans are the ones mainly responsible for slavery, not Americans/Europeans. Also, racial equality is a joke and will never happen, until ALL black people are okay with being treated the same as white people, with no double standards. Until then,

I agree. Too often black people use the race card when they get in trouble.

In order for racial equality to exist, we need to get rid of groups like naacp and stop giving them benefits just for being black. (things such as college scholarship's and EEOC) Why should a black man have a guaranteed job just because he's the only black person that wants to work somewhere? Why should someone who wants to be treated equally get any extra help at all?

The African American community is a fucked up one, In the US anyway.

EDIT: I just wanted to add an example of the special treatment they get. I got kicked out of highschool a few years ago because I called a black girl a "nigga." Yet the word is commonly and openly used by black students in front of teachers and staff. The black girl told the black dean on me (we had 4 deans, all were white except this one... Hmmm, I wonder why she went to that dean) I got kicked out because I was white and the black girl got offended because a white person said "nigga" to her and I wasn't black. If I was black, she would have taken it like I said "homie" or "friend."

This is a deep topic. If blacks want to be treated equal, how can they get mad when a white person says nigger but not when a black person says it? It's those kinds of double standards along with the less than reputable part of their society that will keep and has kept them from being treated equal.

If they want to be treated equal, why don't they stop expecting extra help that your typical white American doesn't get? Such as welfare, food stamps, and unemployment. Of course these are legitimate helpful services that are there to be used by those that need them. And that's not to say that white people aren't using them too. I just know from statistics and experience that the majority of people using food stamps and welfare checks happen to be black. Why are there more blacks on food stamps than white people? Is it because they expect things to just be given to them?

Bottom line is if you want to be treated equal, act like it.

I completely agree. I didn't even bring up those points, as I didn't want my first post to be 8 pages long. But things like that, and the Rooney Rule in football are ridiculous. People should be interviewed for a position because they're qualified, not because of the color of their skin.

I'm sorry, but who in their right mind even considers blaming white people for slavery? Why is this thread even necessary?

Well, it depends what he means. If he means they are more at fault for starting slavery in the new world, that would make sense. If you showed up somewhere back then and were offered to buy someone to do work for you for little to no cost, I'm pretty sure most people would take it. There was a lot of work to be done in the New World, and what better way than by using cheap labor instead of doing it yourself. African tribes that were at war with other tribes would sell their prisoners of war and captives to the Europeans as slaves.
So in a sense, they started the TransAtlantic slave trade. Slavery in itself has been around since ancient Mesopotamian and Mediterranean civilizations.

Pretty much every uneducated black person that can't let go of the past..

That's how it should be. Anything that is in place to benefit blacks and not whites or vice versa is just continuing the inequality. Blacks want equality but in their eyes equality is just giving them more opportunities that they didn't or don't want to work for. Is there a law saying that whites must to be interviewed for a position? No. Why should we have to do something just because of the color of someones skin? That's not equality.

This is very-very ignorant statement. I did not know that africans have the same social and economic equality as the "white man" and they have the best armies in the world?( I wonder if they are still in the best shape and no poverty as ever existed for them..?!) It is a true shame you have not dealt in history to know what they went through.
Yes, some out there over do what many long ago generations suffer but you can also feel their pain that still lives with them knowing them were part of such cruel things. Also, if I must do tell.. They are not up to par with society as many still live in very low incomes, wealth fare, and DO NOT have equal rights towards a good education. If you tell me that a rich neighborhood public school is the same as a broken down Brooklyn one then your nuts.

He is making the point that the race card is bullshit and a poor excuse, and I agree.

Any familys ancestors could have been treated like shit, nothing makes this an exception for getting out of trouble. If they can go around calling eachother derogatory words they obviously aren't feeling much pain for their ancestors. There are blacks who are very deserving of jobs and great education.

    Do they deserve it? Yeah.
    Do they pursue it? No.

There is districting to give equal education, my school is very mixed between cultures.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

I'm sorry, but what do public schools have to do with slavery? I mean, directly. I'm talking about what happened hundreds of years ago, in the Atlantic Slave trade.

The fact of the matter is that Africans sold their own people into slavery. Yes, the Europeans are guilty for buying them, but they're not the root of the evil. The Africans are the ones that facilitated it.

Let me give you an example. Native Americans have more of a right to complain than African Americans do. Native Americans didn't sell their own people into slavery. Instead, their lands were taken forcibly from them, as the Europeans had better technology, and brought many diseases with them. There are examples of Native Americans contributing to their own demise, such as selling the island of Manhattan for trinkets, but for the most part they banded together and tried to fight off the invaders.

As far as you commenting on public schools, do you know what Magnet Schools are? Magnet schools are basically public schools with specialized courses. An example would be a math and science magnet school. Students who excel in these subjects and are considered "smarter" than others are recommended to go to magnet schools. I don't know about other states, but in Florida, most magnet schools are built in poor areas, which usually have a high concentration of black people. I went to a magnet school in 3rd grade, and it was literally 95% black people. At this school, I got into my first fight (which I didn't provoke). And my second. And my third. And my fourth, etc. In ONE year of being at that school, I got into more fights than middle school and high school combined. Yet you're telling me we should bother building nice schools in shitty areas? What for?

Now do they take advantage of the wonderful opportunity given to them, by building a quality magnet school right in their neighborhood? Nope, they took it for granted. Never, in all my years of schooling, have I been in such a terrible learning environment. Thinking back on it, I have to applaud the teachers for putting up with so much bullshit. The majority of the class wanted to do everything BUT learn, and seemed to do everything they could to interrupt the teacher. I had several friends who's parents transferred them to a different school, after seeing what a poor learning environment it was.

You ever heard the saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to drink"? Yeah, it's applicable in this situation. You can build a nice school for black people, but you can't force them to want to better themselves (once again, some do, many choose not to).

I'm a minority myself. I went to "poor" public schools while growing up, and at times lived in pretty crappy neighborhoods. Yet instead of feeling sorry for myself, thinking I'll never amount to anything, and dropping out of school I worked hard, graduated 4th in my senior class, and am now in my third year of college, without having to pay a dime (in fact, I get around $1500 every year, due to an excess amount of scholarships).

If I can do it, why can't other kids in "broken down Brooklyn schools" do the same? (For the record, I went to school in Queens). Oh, and another observation.. Do you think it's a coincidence that most "poor"/shady areas, or the "ghetto" areas have a large amount of black people?

I think that we had a part to play in this but do I think we should apologise no way.The way I look at it is that it is all in the past and it was a white man that actully abolished slavery because it was morally wrong. I also think that black people are too quick to pull the race card there are some legit cases of raceist behavior by the police but because the race card has been played so oftern it is hard to tell which is a legit case and which is not.

lol @ you, this is just an simple example of ignorance and little no to history known. Sorry, I did not know that Africans were not captured by the "white people".

Your example is very flawed as Europeans had more GUNS and africans DID NOT. As with American natives only at the ending of their war had they use more advance technology.

Magnet schools I can wipe my ass with. lol and it's truly funny you use the Hispanic card as to state your equal to them in comparing. Funny you bring yourself to "their level".

Schools are a big part of the problem. But it is not the single cause as to why blacks are doing poorly. Many social and economic issues that are far extensive for you little brain to give thought.
Their is a very huge gap and it is created by a flawed system. No system is perfect but the gap from the rich and poor is growing far in between. Their is always a problem with class struggle and broken down schools do not help in bringing education is one of the very few ways to get out situation. I remember in my university sociology class that in poverty their is like 50% chance a someone in poverty may get out if they get proper education. Go to sociology class than come back and give your claims some facts to adherent bs you type so lengthy yet meaning less.

In sum, your just a racist who thinks people can achieve anything even with poverty. Sorry to say that is so unrealistic and far from reality.

    All i'm going to say..

Black people, and most people think Blacks were the only one sold into slavery, White people were as well.

Also. It existed in Africa way before "whites" got there. And almost all Native races of lands, had instances of slavery.

Also, When i was in high school, a dean wanted to expel me for saying Nigga, to my friend (who was black), he didn't tell on me. The dean was behind me. And he was talking to me about me being a white supremest.. And i laughed in his face. He ended up "expelling" me. But I later appealed to the district, that I myself was being discriminated against, and it went to a hearing. And I was let go of all "charges", and the dean was let go of the school. My argument was that We could walk through the hallways and hear 10's of people say it who were black, and you'd have to expel all of them as well, and of course they weren't going to.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

You definitely proved me wrong, good job.

You continue to prove how ignorant you are.

Yes the Europeans had guns. But what difference does it make, when the Africans willingly sold other Africans TO the Europeans? Slavery was going on in Africa LONG before the Europeans started buying African slaves. Yet you'd like to blame white people for that, right? How are you going to tell me it's a little known fact to history, when slavery began thousands of years ago in Africa, and is still going on to this day. I'd love to for you to show me solid evidence that not a single African was sold to the Europeans, and they were all captured forcibly.

Also, I don't know why you keep bringing up schools, when I never mentioned that word in my first post; sounds like you've got nothing and you're grasping at straws here.

I love how the color of someone's skin matters so much to you. Are YOU not the one being racist here? I was poor and Hispanic, yet you're saying I'm not on the same level as someone who's poor and black? What difference is there between me and a black person? Oh, that's right, the black people have it SO much harder, never mind the fact that poverty exists for all races and nationalities.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

I was about to post a long post but I decided to just give you some insight.

    http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USASafrica.htm

Native Americans, did they send a letter to say, when you can sail here – come be our king, in-trap us and bring to us about your ideologies?

Zulu, did they call the British or send a memo to come?

And just remember, for you’re a coloured person and there is a position or a type of success in life - where you can't reach and may never achieve. That is the difference a black man and a white man have. As well as the black man was made into an animal and had nothing to lose. Does that maybe explain, why black people are the way they are? And if you think for one moment slavery is over in these civilized countries, read this.

    http://www.jrf.org.uk/publications/modern-slavery-united-kingdom

Nothing in life changes, it’s the same agenda just a different method.
Slavery of the mind never changes and never forgets.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

This is one of the dumbest things I have read on the internet, white people are not to blame for owning black people...nice logic. And why do you think Africans sold other Africans to whites so they could save their own asses and their tribes from being taken by the whites....kind of like a trade off. You think whites just climbed off their ships in africa and there were blacks holding a sale on other blacks? Im only talking about slavery here not about race cards, which is a completely different issue.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

I do not know much about the history behind slavery.

However I'm sure before slavery was introduced, the colour of ones skin was not the cause of slavery. It has simply over time been molded into an 'in' 'out' group relationship, and a dominant and recessive group.
