    My current build:
    ASRock M3A770DE motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 620, OC to 3.25Ghz CPU
    4GB DDR3 1600 RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
320GB HD (reused from my previous build :/)

Over the next few months, I will be slowly adding to my system as I can afford it.

    2TB 5400RPM 3.0GB/s internal hard drive:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T hexacore: (I will most likely overclock this)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851

A second NVIDIA GeForce 450 GTS in SLI:

8GB DDR3 1600 (2x4GB) RAM, will add this into my current 4GB if possible for a grand total of 12GB RAM:

And there you have it.. basically rebuilt my entire computer for under $500. It'll probably tip a bit over that because I might buy some new peripherals to go with it, but the jist of the computer is there. Let me know if you think I'll be getting pretty good bang for my buck with that configuration and ways I can improve on it.

You can't add the RAM together since they're different speeds. It may work depending on the mobo, but it most likely wont. Didn't for mine anyway.

Even if I have two separate channels? Fairly sure it wouldn't conflict because of something like that, especially if they're on separate channels.. but I'm no expert.

Well you can use them, but your motherboard will run at the clock speed of the slowest sticks. So it's really pointless to upgrade to faster RAM if you're going to use your original to begin with. Unless you want just more of the slower ram for the price of the faster, which would be stupid

Right.. did some researching, you appear to be right. I'll either just buy the slower RAM or get more of the faster stuff. I've seen some pretty cheap kits so hopefully I'll still come out at around the 12GB mark, depending on money.

What kind of cooling system will you get? It would be worth spending the extra money to get a liquid cooling system to make your computer last longer :)

I want a liquid cooling system tbh, but it looks complicated/expensive as hell. I'm sure as long as I don't go overboard on the ocing, I shouldn't need a liquid cooling setup.. however it would be nice to have everything be nearly silent :/

Btw, that thing with the RAM was bugging me so I checked my RAM just to be sure (been 1.5 years since I built it, memory was fading) and it turns out I do have DDR3 1600 RAM, so that means I can buy the faster RAM with no worries.

It's relatively simple unless you install a custom cooling setup. For around 100 you can get a Corsair h70 which does a fantastic job for the price.
