Probably should go in sports training. Go to the MMA thread on there and ask Insidious. He trains mma, ask him what he does.
Your missing Judo though, which is amazing.

please do not be another one

i worked with a guy that was training for the MMA
he is doing nothing with his life except grasp onto the MMA dream

do something more productive with your life. become a nurse, a fireman, a teacher.

how twisted is our society, where we place the rich and violent above people who actually contribute to society in a positive way.

well im done with my lil diatribe

How is MMA not productive? First of all, it's an activity in which he probably wants to do for fun. Second of all, how is being a teacher, fireman, or nurse any more productive? Productivity is the act of being productive, in other words, doing something that's time consuming. MMA is a form of entertainment.

My buddy has been training to be an MMA fighter for 4 years, and he has already had offers to fight professionally. He doesn't think he's ready though so he hasn't accepted any offers yet, but even getting offers is a big step.

The rich get rich because they do something to earn that money. Teachers decided that career choice, and decided to go to college for it, when they could have done something to make themselves rich as well. A rapper, or a MMA fighter doesn't just wake up one day, and decide to get rich. No, it takes determination, practice, and a lot of hard work to achieve what they have, and they continue everyday to get better.

I'd probably refer more to Plznate as I think he's eons ahead of me - I haven't even been to the gym in almost a year.

From most people that I've talked to both online, coaches and athletes/MMA enthusiasts it's better to pick up a discipline that your natural strengths/skill set play into though some would argue to do the exact opposite. For example, if you're good at grappling/wrestling then I'd recommend BJJ and/or
Submission Wrestling and if standing and striking is more your style then welcome to the world of MT. My knowledge of Vale Tudo is entirely based off of reading so I won't talk about what I know nothing about.
Well a lot of the most successful MMA fighters were told they'd never amount to nothing and the vast majority are highly successful people otherwise (accountants, teachers, bankers, doctors etc.)

Conversely there are a lot of people caught up in the 'MMA dream' blindly wasting their life away meathead-style; like all things in life it's about striking a balance and knowing where the acceptable limit is. Just about any 'entertainment' job has people like this: sports, music, dancing etc.

productivity =/= doing something that is time consuming
    jesus, pick up a dictionary

for your sake, i will instead say that mma fighters do not contribute to society in a positive way.
they are the equivalent of the gladiators of rome, only there for the public's twisted entertainment.

your buddy has had offers to smash people faces for money..... he should be proud.

i am saying that it is twisted to throw away the common good in favor of profits.

in conclusion, all i can say is go ahead and start a career in a field that has less than 100 very successful fighters.

you do not want to know just how many people training for MMA end up nowhere because they are inadequate next to the tens of thousands of competitors.

seriously, the next step for MMA is to have:

    MMA IDOL

ppl would line up for blocks just to see if they can beat eachother up for a chance to get a fighting contract.

    PS
i hope you enjoy your brain cells while they are alive

BJJ mate. But you need a bit of background experience to really unlock the power of BJJ.

That wouldn't be feasible in any manner - you'd be spent after the first few bouts. All you'd get is a bunch of meatheads going at it redneck style.

The head trauma that boxers endure in a match (regardless of outcome) is tons of times more than that of the average MMA bout. Boxing is infinitely more dangerous than MMA.

getting hit in the head = getting hit in the head

losing brain cells = losing brain cells

you are arguing that MMA is alright because you dont lose as many brain cells as boxing??? your still in a career that necessitates getting hit in the head repeatedly.

how many knockouts happen in MMA?
