    "I've pmed you."

A few things to keep in mind:

    1) Some people disable the PM Pop-Up notification. Some people really don't check their PMs unless they have reason to. They won't know they have a PM unless they notice the number in the top right, or someone posts on their thread. Don't ask me why, but they don't.

    2) Posting can just be a public way of justifying yourself. If you want to tell someone you PM'd them your MSN, then it's contributing to the thread, not spamming.

    3) If you do not PM and you say you PM'd, then it is an obvious spam. You are not contributing to the thread and you are simply posting so as to raise your post count.

The punchline? I support that saying "I've PM'd you" is spam if the person does not PM. If the person does PM, and says something more elaborate such as "I've PM'd you my MSN, let's discuss this over IM" then I do not support. I believe this to contribute to the thread; disagree with me if you will.

    That is all.

You could argue that it generates competition to the market. However it generates spam. To prevent this the user could choose to either PM the seller or post. I see no reason to pm them something that could be said in the thread. If the buyer would like people to have competition generated then they could ask that they just repeat what they said in a private message or not the message them in the first place. Instead of the user saying "I've pmed you".

My point was not as obvious so I will correct myself. Usually after a user receives one infraction they will not continue to do the same thing. If they do then well, they deserve to be banned. However for the most part people will learn their lesson.

I asked Farcast and he said mods cannot view edited posts, however Admins can. Mods can view deleted posts though. Anyways how often do you see admins dealing with scam reports? Hardly ever, so a private message in fact would be better proof so the admins wouldn't have to go through every edited post in case of a scam. With a picture of a message, or allowing a moderator to view the message over teamviewer it is guaranteed proof.

If you do this then I would suggest saving suspicious private messages or messages with sketchy sellers. Or to simply document your private messages.

I see what you mean by posting to show the seller that you have interest. A good compromise and something users should do instead of posting "I've pmed you" should be to just say what they said in the private message in the thread as well, if the thread offer is requesting that you post. This way you are not posting something spam like. If it does happen it could just be considered spam. Doing this would promote more constructive, and thought through posts on market threads because it would force people to post something related to the topic opposed to telling the user that they messaged them.

I have done this before. I do support, but even after pming them, I guess it is beneficial to the seller because it gives them a free bump. Then again, it should be removed and it will be repeated until a rule is made.

I personally have the pop-up window disabled, simply because I hate pop-ups. Whenever I get a private message I can still notice right away due to the bold text, maybe it is just my keen eye, but I do notice right away.

I agree with point #2, not so much point #1, and I agree with point #3.

I think that instead of posting just "I've pmed you" that users should post something similar to what they said in the message is they feel the urge or have been asked to post and message. However if they message and post just "I've pmed you" then it should be spam. If people start getting warned and such for it, in the long run it will promote better and more constructive posts.

Oh the irony. I'm simply quoting this to point out your immaturity. Just take a read and calm down, you can see that I am not complaining. Simply suggesting something. Oh and it makes me feel good that you think I have put a lot of effort into defending this, because that says something about my post quality. In all honesty I have not put much effort into this, just simply making a few replies and generating discussion. Something you obviously can't handle. Have a nice day though.

Why does this bother you? There's nothing wrong with it. If you let things like this bother you, you need help.

If you took the time to read some of the posts in this thread you wouldn't be making posts like this. Try to back up some of your points, because I am curious to your response on ANY of the points I have made in this thread. On a side note, it doesn't bother me all that much. I was merely bringing attention to the matter, and the opinions on this are about 50 / 50 so I don't see your logic in saying that it is merely me that "needs help". Please post something constructive before you try to resort to insults.

I'd like to bump this up from the second page again because I feel like others may have more to add to this than what I have posted already.

I sometimes post that I've PMed to show the people on Sythe that we are going to initiate a trade. They normally reply on their thread so it provides slighty more evidence of the two parties trading.
How ever, I do go into more detail than just "I've PMed you". I think small posts like that should be considered spam, some people do it just to raise their post count, it's hard for the mods to decipher which are legit and which aren't.

I'm not going to lie I do it sometimes as well, but most of the time the people I'm trading with request it to show the community we have initiated a trade. I don't do it for post count but I somewhat agree its spam. The only problem I see here is if somebody requests you to post on the thread you will be infracted for following the directions by the trader, whereas not following it will make you seem like a little fishy. Also sometimes people say "pmed you" to verify they have sent a pm and if the person didn't get a pm they can tell the trader they haven't got one, whereas without posting "pmed you" and the person doesn't get the pm the buyer will simply think the seller has no interest in the trade.

This happened to me a couple of times due to my internet, where I have pmed people a price quote and they never received my pm and looked back onto my thread and told me to pm them again.

There's a lot worse people post on the forums such as on the runescape general/ cheating section I see a lot of things like "facepalm" or pictures of "facepalm" and I see it everywhere on forums other than spam.

Yes there is - a private message can be faked.
It can act as further proof of a scam, and this in itself means that we cannot blame those who do it.

Whilst I don't do this myself when trading, it can help improve a trade's fluidity and I guess it reinforces the private message that's been sent, giving both parties better peace of mind.
