Could somebody explain to me what a VPS is and why it's used?

I keep coming across it when people talk about Goldfarming.
Is it an anti-ban measure?

 

a VPS is basically like having a computer to use without it affecting your own computer.

They're mostly used for goldfarming so you can run multiple bots.

 

A VPS is a virtual computer, basically. It's used to keep your bots online as much as possible and to give your home PC a break. A lot of people don't like the fact you have to leave your PC on 24/7 if you want to run it from your home. Plus if you push your home PC to the limits on how many bots you can run, you can't do much else on your computer without lagging like hell.

Simply put a VPS simplifies and streamlines the whole process of goldfarming.

 

Basicly it allows you to bot on a diffrent computer, and with some software you can control it with ease. The better the vps spec is, the more bots can run. I had one for a month and it was very useful.

For now I guess I'll use my own comp, plus friend's or something.

 

There no point on using a vps if you are going to run one or two bots. Gold farmers use them to run 4-5 bots per vps..

 

I guess that saved me 30 bucks a month...

It is a virtual computer that lets you to run multiple bots, without overdoing it on your personal computer.
It is also the cause of all those 1000s of essence miners and iron power miners that you see ^^
I'd love to experiment to try to bring down the bots for just 3 days and watch ess prices sky rocket.... could prolly make tonnes of money off it...
