Great computer, but do you really need to spend that much? You could spend $700 less and the difference would be barely noticeable.

The SSD is a good choice though.

How so? I see everything as being very essential. What could I change?

Yeah I guess so. I see as I'm looking at it more. If you're going to spend $1700 on a computer those are the parts to buy.

If I were to get a gaming rig though. I would get something like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883241037
and put a ~$150 graphics card in it.

It would be able to play virtually everything.

But, that wouldn't be nearly as sick as yours.

You can build a better rig for less than 1700. Or a better one for 1700.

If it were my machine, I would want faster ram. 1600mhz isn't outstanding and 2000mhz isn't uncommon. You'd need to upgrade the motherboard though for that.

2 gtx 480's are outstanding in SLI,

You can also overclock Ram, gpu, and cpu to get more performance out of everything.

So how would I build a better rig for under 1700?

Latency is all that matters, difference between 1600mhz and 2000mhz in gaming is very, very small.

GTX 480 is very old card that produces alot of heat and u need alot of power to use two of them and SLI produces alot more problems.

Stick with sandy bridge, maybe GTX 580 and you don't really need more than 4 - 6gb of ram for gaming.

For that price I wouldn't get wtp's suggestion since Phenom is fairly old and BD is coming in few months so SB would be your best bet for gaming.

You don't need a soundcard, your motherboard already has one and cheap one like that won't make a difference.

If the mobo is a piece of shit, which looks it the sound card will take some load off it. So it would definately make a difference.
