    After life?

I believe there's more to man than a bundle of chemicals that'll die out when the time comes. I believe in heaven and hell.
I do often think about the whole dream within a dream stuff though.

    After life?

there are 84 million types of different species of different animals/insect and anything you name it, even us humans are one them. after we die we have to go through those 84 million types of different species untill we become human once again. It has been written in the holy god book of the religion "Sikh" called the "The Guru Granth Sahib" it is just like how bible is to the Christians. This book indeed has been studied through by some most known scientists from nasa and this book contains alot of information about the universe itself as was written by the gods people. It also tells u that your next birth mostly determines to be dependent on the type of your act during your current life. If you're a truly the person who seeks faith in god and lives the life the right way or tries to live it as honestly as possible then your chances of becoming a human again increases by a good amount. nd no i dint just made all this up, you can search about the book online and get more info as most of u will b just like watever :)

    After life?

death is the cessation of experience

imo, we fear death because we fear change and we fear saying goodbye forever. i would imagine fear of death has less to do with the actual pain experienced during death.

Well we can say that after we die we will just be sleeping or w/e but then the question comes how did we come to this world? How are we alive, why are there planets, etc. So yeah it gets complicated

    After life?

If there was an after life, what would it be composed of? The unknown can be frightening, which is the source of fear for death.

reminds me of an ant, finally putting down a seed he has been dragging for 3 meters, "hmmm, why am i here?"

seriously, can't anything just be without needing an ultimate meaning?

    After life?

Do I believe in the stereotypical afterlife? Not exactly.

I believe that when we die, we will not remain in that state forever. If matter is neither created nor destroyed, but changes form then I believe we just change form. I personally do not believe we are dead for 13.7 billion years and alive for 80.

it is as if your definition of being dead has some existence....if you get what i am saying

when we are dead, our consciousness is destroyed. our brain is long gone.

sure, the energy that created us will never be destroyed. it will be transformed.

    what i argue is:
the way that mass and energy organized to create you and your incredibly unique brain that houses your identity will not form by chance again for an incredibly long period of time.

But sperm will, eggs will, embryos will. They all have the potential to grow into a human.

But this is merely my opinion, I just dislike the fact that we are 'non existent/dead' for 13.7 billion years and alive for 80; if that.

embryos will make a human. that human will not have the same synapses as you had, and so it will not be the same person, but just another body with a brain.

i dislike the fact that I do not have a super model beside me atm.

I never said you'd have the same synapses as you did before, but you would however have a conscious state of mind to work with.

    same conscious state of mind?
    you mean like being happy?
    being concerned?
    being neurotic?

a baby has nothing in its brain that made you you. it probably is not even aware of its own existence yet.

A conscious state of mind. It's like a piece of paper, it's clean and fresh and you can do as you please with it.

I don't follow your last point, when I still have the same brain as I do when I was a baby, and despite the average I can remember memories back to when I was around 6-8 months old.

    lol,
you do not have the same brain you did as a child
first, your body's cells completely regenerate every 7 years or so
second, every experience you have had has generated new pathways for synapses in the brain. this is called neuroplasticity.

srsly, i thought this was basic stuff

    After life?

See I'm tied with the belief of heaven and whether or not we just sleep. I want to believe in heaven, since Jesus came back to life (supposively) but I'm not going to let out my religious views. I believe in a divine spirit somewhere that created the universe, but I'm not sure how I feel about heaven. But hey, I could use an eternal sleep :p

adding a fun/wierd view point, as JK Rowling wrote in the first harry potter book.

    After life?

There have been books written on peoples experiences dying and then being brought back to life. These experiences were either hell or heaven. A heart doctor wrote about his experiences resuscitating patients who died on the table, it freaked him out because they told of their hellish experiences. They were begging him to help them get out of hell, and he did not know what to do. He did his research and found his answers in the Bible.

I do find the topic of this thread extremely interesting.

For the point you make here I would just like to add something. Have your parents ever been able to confirm what you remember? I'm just curious because I have wondered what the farthest back a human being can remember. There are people who say they can remember their own birth. The only problem that critics say is that these "memories" are actually just a mixture of dreams and thoughts an individual has come to acknowledge as true over a period of time.

Edit: And for the whole "white-light" thing, there was some researchers who scientifically explain this phenomenon. It has something to do with the receptors in our eyes.

Edit: I just hope that we are given a book which has all of the answers to everything in this universe. So much I would love to learn.

    After life?

From a logical point of view I see death nothing more than a simple like as if killing a ant on the side-walk. Faith tells you the hope of your future after life which none can be proven as death can not tell us. We are creatures that live and die. Nothing else-very simple.
