Exactly. But they abide by the standard for mma, and I doubt they are going to change rules.

During the summer, I saw 2 episodes on spike everydays during early morning, 1-2am.
I can see it quite a bit, but if you have versus, showtime, hdnet you see it a lot more often.

Same here. If I ever get down to 265 from training and working out and stuff, I would definitely have an amateur fight, just to have at least one.

 

Well 9 more days till the fun starts All 5 prelim fights are on facebook for free, followed by 2 on spike followed by 5 on ppv

 

I wouldn't count Shields out but I'm rooting for GSP. I just hope this fight doesn't get boring like the last few of GSP's. I do realize he's exhibiting really great gameplan and technique but it's not my cup of tea.

I'm hoping to join a BJJ gym this summer, but given a few factors it seems unlikely. I'll definitely join in the fall if my workload isn't heavy. Good luck and train hard!

I don't think anyone fights on here besides plznate (in MT I think), there was another guy who said he did but is now banned.

Yeah, asides from the sparring, grappling and pseudo-fights that I've had with friends and the little rage-fueled tiffs that I've got into I want to have at least real MMA match. I'd consider just about anyone with similar skill levels and experience as long as they're not way bigger than me.

If you do have such a match, PLEASE do post a video. I had a 20 minute montage of me and friends with our weekly grappling (and the odd sparring/no holds barred) matches we had over the course of a school year in high school but no one seems to have a copy of it anymore.

Can't wait, I'm getting all excited as this is going to be the first pro event I'm going to live!

I would love to see a video if you got one too. My friend video taped on his cell phone one of my fights, but I don't know if he got rid of it or not.

The longer the fight goes the sweatier it is, and the less likely for subs. Thus GSP should use his super sweat ability to his advantage aye?

 

Si. Or he will KO him in the first. I think Jake Shields grappling ability is a little overrated tbh. He hasn't finished any good JJ fighters.

 

he hasn't finished but he has dominated on the ground. he hanst faced anyone as explosive as St Pierre yet and he will soon find out St Pierre inst a Lawler or a Daley.

I see St Pierre starting out with a Joe Rogan Spinning back kick! Joe was teaching him in one of his vids, on how to do it properly.

 

Those two aren't good on the ground and those are his only quality subs.
He couldn't sub guys such as Okami, Condit, Hendo, etc, guys that have quality ground games.

He outstruck Okami, yes i know that was embrassing. Okami didnt have a standup back then. Jake couldnt take Okami down once, and Okami scored one on Jake.

 

That is the only problem I have with Shields, his lack of ability to finish quality opponents on the ground. If he fought his teammates, Nick and Nate I am fairly certain he would lose. Also, I think Daniel Roberts would give him a very tough time.

I thought the Okami fight just shows that i have a feeling the GSP fight will end up like a Fitch fight.
GSP's TTD is amazing and so is Okamis. Imagine adding Okami level TTD AND striking. Thats what Shields will lose VS.

Okamis so good on the ground, he was able to get up VS Sonnen over and over again. Sonnens just a wrestler on a whole different level.
If Silva retires i could actually see Okami being a champ, as long as he tones his striking.

 

That is the only way he could finish a fight though. He couldn't finish a gassed henderson for 4 rounds either.
I don't know about Okami honestly. I think he loses to Maia. Okami is good on the ground, but his tdd isn't super great, Munoz took him down a couple times I think.
Shields will get destroyed imo. I think GSP ground game overall is better than Shields. GSP has good jj, great passes/sweeps and good striking. And his striking is 10x Shields

 

Munoz took him down TWO times out of TEN, and both times Okami sprung back up quickly. Okamis TTD is amazing, Sonnen commented on it when he trained with Okami, some of the best hes seen. Noone gets up from Sonnen's takedowns as fast as him. When Sonnen took Marquadt down he stayed down.
Maia will have a tough time getting Okami to the ground, and then trying to control him will be hard as well. To beat Okami you have to keep the fight standing. Okamis never been submitted, i;d like to add that as well. Also sweeping someone the size of Okami is no easy task, especially now that he is starting to train with Team Quest which contains Henderson, Sonnen and Lindland all notable wrestlers. Hes not officially part of them, but im 100% sure thats better than the Japanese guys he used to train his wrestling with.

Shields doest have striking, i think Kampman would have won if he stayed standing, and Kampman got up EASILY every time, except for the last round. He could have easily torn Shields apart. Next, all GSP needs to do is be careful, a flying armbar or something flashy could come from nowhere and put shock. He has to be prepared to see unexpected shit.

 

Marquardt looks horrible on his back. Also Okami might have not been submitted, but his standup is sorely laking, and he still can be submitted.
Henderson has better sub d than Okami and Anderson rnc'ed him.
