    How To Kick (Fight Related)

    Hello Guys!

I decided to write a guide on how to kick and the different types of kicks you can use whilst fighting, weather it's in the ring or on the streets!

I hope by the end of this guide you will have learnt a little more about kicking in a fight.

Kicking can be used in a series of contexts such as Martial Arts and street fights. You need to use the correct techniques in order to ensure that you do not harm your body. At the same time you need to ensure that the kick is effectively in immobilizing your opponent. With poor technique you might end up making matters worse. Here are a few tips for kicking well:

The front kick: You use this kick to attack legs as well as the groin. The solar plexus is a good target. In combative situations you might use the kick to attack the face and throat. You can complete the maneuver quickly without expending too much energy. You need to stand in a fighting stance. The dominant leg has to be kept behind with the toe pointed to the side. The secondary leg will have its toe pointed forward. The torso will be facing the direction of the dominant leg. Your hands should be in a guard position. Although the hands are not important for the kick, they are crucial for defense and balance.

Pace and direction: In order to add pace and direction to your kick you need to set the motion in advance. A faster kick is achieved by the secondary leg but a powerful leg is achieved by the back leg. It is important that you size up your opponent so that you can select the right kick at the right time. The knee on your kicking leg should be raised so that it becomes parallel to the ground. You should be aiming for the waist or hip. Chambering is the technical term that is applied to this movement. It is important that you breathe in as you undertake the chambering process.

Snapping movements: The ideal kick is one that catches the opponent by surprise. You kick your leg by snapping it forward very rapidly. During this process you need to rapidly release air from your lungs. When you make contact, you should breathe in. The body will relax if you use the correct breathing technique. You should not try to control the kick too much because it tends to lose some of its bite. Do quick kicks in drills so that you do not get tired in a live match situation.

Getting back into position: If you do not land back in the right position then the kick can end up being an unforced error in a match context. You need to unsnap your leg so that your thigh becomes parallel to the ground. If you used the secondary leg then you need to place it back to its original position in front. If you used the back leg then you will need to settle it in front so that you can have another swing if needed. That means that you can have a series of consecutive kicks during an episode.

Variations: Add variety to the kicks that you use in a match situation. For example you might increase the height or reduce the speed. In some advanced techniques you can use a leg to deliver a series of blows before it returns to the ground. You should try the back and side kick as well.

I hope you enjoyed my guide and found it useful.
