    How To Defrag Your Computer

Defragging A Computer Running Windows 7

    What is Defragging:
The general idea is placing files that have been fragmented all over the place back into the files that they are part of. Many files get scattered when you have programs opening and closing and can cause your computer to not run as smooth as it once did.

    When Should I defrag?
I personally defrag my computer about once a week when I run my anti-virus software. You could do it once a month mainly I would say it depends on how much you use your computer. If you have it on all the time weekly, if you use your computer once in a while then monthly.

    How do I do it?

Just go into your start menu and start typing defragmenter.

This should then pop up when you click on it.

Now you will select which disk you want to defrag, I chose C: and analyze.

Once that is done analyzing it tells me how much is fragmented.

After that I will click C: and then click Defragment Disk, it will take a few minutes and re-analyze it then it will start defragging. It will continue it's passes with re-locating and defragging.

Mine is an hour in so far and at this point.

Once it's fully done it will look like this.

Note: Depending on the size of your drive and how long it's been since you've defragged it could take some time.

Nice work on the guide, I like the use of pictures and progress of the defragmentation. Centering some text and a bit of layout changing would make just that much better!

I advise you to avoid windows disk defragger. It does a very incomplete job and takes far, far too long. As an alternative I suggest using raxco's perfect disk trial. Just install it to the desktop, run it, delete it, repeat in 2-4 weeks.

Hmm, I don't tend to use the default disk defragger as well. I use the Auslogics disk defrag, it's free and way faster than the windows defragger.

    Nevertheless, good guide, Good pictures.

I agree with 1ce windows defragmenter is a very low quality defragmentation program. There are many other programs that do much better jobs. Very simple straightforward guide though keep it up.

Not to be rude or any thing but I posted a guide that already covered this and much more in it. It's a good guide but I don't think it should count as one for your app since it's already been posted. Sorry mate. :/
