College

I'm heading off to college in about a year. It may seem far away, But it's actually not. I need to start doing a bit of research regarding on what i'm going to study. I'm planning on going to college in Illinois and studying something to do with law, something that's international. Like International Business Law,etc.

I would be thankful if you guys know any colleges that do offer such programs and what kind of Law you think is good to study. Thanks!

 

My Uncle is a corporate lawyer. It's quite hard work but the pay's good. Although, I don't think he likes his job very much.

 

you dont necessarily have to know exactly what you want right now...many people still dont know what they want to do half way through college lol

 

It doesn't even matter for your first couple of years. You will be taking all of you gen eds that are pre-reqs to get into the higher upper level courses you want to take. Taking your gen eds should give you a really go focus on what you would like to study into more in your higher level courses. Don't take more than 15 credits freshman year. College really is a huge transition, not even the fact of the workload, it just is a whole new system way different than high school to get adjusted to.

Before you can take class 200, you will have to complete your intro to politics 100 class.

 

You decide your major at the end of your sophmore year for most colleges.
Collegeboard.com has a college search feature where you can set parameters and it will give you a list of college.
You should take the SAT or ACT w/ writing (and 2 SAT IIs for the most selective institutions) this May, June, or next October.

I've done that. I took SAT and I'm taking 2 SAT'S in May & June. Where I live, one of our many graduation requirements is to pass the SAT AND 7 SAT Subject Tests, So I'm currently working on that.

 

Collegeboard and Collegeconfidential are both sites where you can search for majors and colleges. I'd definetly recommend the second one, its helped me ALOT.

As for being interested in something to do with law I'd recommend studying Political science or International Studies. I'd try to stay away from "Pre-law." Some studies have shown undergrads who took prelaw scored lower on the LSAT's than other majors. Also the material that you learn in Pre Law courses also has little resembelance to what you actually learn in law school. It might be a little too early to be looking into law schools when you still have 4 years of college ahead of you. But just keep up good grades and start practicing for your LSAT's.
