How to turn off automatic updates

Sick of getting those constant updates asking to give you irrelevant updates? There automatic, you can't stop them. Or can you... read this guide to find out how you can turn off your automatic updates. However please keep in mind i'm not liable for anything that happens to your computer.

    Step 1.
Click the 'Start' button then press 'All Programs'

    Step 2.
Look for the program called 'Windows Update'

You can either scroll through all programs like this:

Or if you're the short-cut kinda person, type 'Windows Update' in the little search bar down the bottom. It's highlighted in green.

If you're using windows XP and want a short-cut. Open up your start menu and on your right click 'Search' and then 'Windows Update' and your computer will find it.
Or it could be found in the control panel.

    Step 3.
Press 'Change Settings' (It's highlighted in green)

    Step 4.

Look at 'Important Updates' then press the option-changer and go down to the one at the bottom called 'Never check for updates' and select it.

    Step 5.

    Press 'Ok'

Thankyou for reading, i hope you enjoyed. If this was any assistance to you, please say so!

    Extra Information:
I've had this done on my computer for nearly 5 months, it's been fine. So a non-recommendation i'd say isn't in order. This also keeps your computer more spacious and a lot less-annoying.

Not to be a downy but you really should keep automatic updates enabled. Notably that most virii are defeated when an applicated is updated. (depending on the nature of the virus and what exploit(s) it employs.(I.E. an acrobat reader exploit could cause your av to crash or prevent it from doing it's job)) Although a good AV application will apply the updated patches for you as part of its routine protection, I highly advice you keep your software updated.

    (teamviewer being a large one...)

You're computer should be able to run without much update wise but most updates are beneficial for you and keep you safe from certain virus' and malicious content.

I agree with tiger, finding various ways to turn a system upside-down using exploited (every variety) programs seems to be 95% of my job. From my perspective; being lazy and disabling updates will leave you with shotty programs and a world full of hurt.

I found this one for TS2 in inj3ct0r's archive:
TeamSpeak 2.0 (Windows Release) Remote Denial of Service Exploit

That's just awful.. a little old, outdated, but many people use teamspeak, but furthers my point; Update your shit. Taking an easyout and not keeping your system up-to-date is lunacy..

Not only is it a security risk but bars you from 'neat' and 'new' features for the application you need. Perhaps if you re-orientate your guide to scheduling updates rather than halting them alltogether you'll get the best of both worlds.

If you're curious as to how morbidly wrong you (you) are (how extremely insecure your system is, (It could get pretty ugly)) then give this a shot:

It will prompt you to enter some information (used later if you plan on purchasing the product). With the exception of your email (will need for DL link) you can pretty well feed it BS for now. Have that do a vulnerability check.

When you see it, you'll shit brix

    This guide, nice is :)

I do have them off, before I read your guide, it makes CPU usage lower. And I manually check from time to time.

Could have different font and more layout options.
