I just cant believe it happend. I never really get into summoning since i alway believed it was ruining combat. Now i have my answer.

My g2h pure was ruined yesterday. 3 def FTL. It was on crush mode and I unwielded it, and was unaware that I was on defensive mode. I lagged before a stake and only came to when I died. Bam. 3def. I woulda seen that I was on the wrong mode if not for the lag. So hey, you're not the only one

It's more a psychological thing for most people. The "perfect" pure would have 1 defence and so having anything higher than that would not be satisfactory for perfectionists.

It's fine - when it's maxed the extra defence level doesn't change the combat.

 

Ruined? Absolutely not.

Many maxed pures get 3 defence on purpose because it does not affect their combat level. Don't do something you'll regret later, leave it at 2.

Its one of those things that you will look at every time you click on your stats tab. I suppose you'll care a little bit less about it over time but still, theres a massive 2 there say "HAHA fuck you!".
