    Nationalize the use of Cannabis?

Hi, I am a occasional smoker of weed and I live in France. I think, like Holland, we should nationalize the Cannabis.

    Benefits of it:

    - Government will get a shitload of money by putting a Tax on it just like tobbaco

    - The drugs dealers will be gone (well not 100% of them but a lot)

    - Potentially increase the number of tourists thus economy

    - From a smoker point of view, you will get a better quality weed if the government controls how it is produced.

My other question is, why is alcohol allowed and not cannabis? Well in France i guess alcohol is part of the culture especially Wine.

    Health issues:
I would put the danger to health of alcohol and weed at the same level.

    Post your thoughts

Cannabis is not legal in holland.
you should try looking into it and you'll see what I mean cuz I cba to explain.

And cannabis is illegal instead of alcohol because it threatened to undercut the timber industry as the source for paper in the early 1900's

ok it's like this in holland.
    It's a laissez faire policy.
you can do basically whatever you want inside a person's property (like a store or diner) but it's not technically legalized.

And the timber thing I've heard from multiple places, and in multiple documentaries...

It's not legalized in Holland, it's decriminalized. It's "allowed" on privately owned property, and when done in public it's still only a small fine.

Also, marijuana, while it is still a drug, is nowhere near as dangerous as alcohol.

It's impossible to smoke enough to overdose

The plant itself isn't carcinogenic. Its smoke is carcinogenic in the same way that any smoke (even that of a campfire) is. If it's consumed with a vaporizer or in its edible forms, it has absolutely no potential to cause cancer.

The gateway drug theory is most likely caused by marijuana's illegal status. What I mean by that is, if you're buying from some shady dealer, eventually he's likely to try and sell you something more hardcore. If you were buying it from retailer locations, that potential risk is almost entirely eliminated.

It actually hasn't been proven to kill brain cells. While there was a study done that people believe proved it caused damage to brain cells, it's completely bogus. What they did was overload the monkeys with so much smoke they had no oxygen, killing brain cells. This study has since been dismissed as complete bullshit by anybody with any kind of an intelligence level.

I personally dont see anything in legalizing the use of Marijuana but i would treat it the same way as alcohol. You dont want people turning up to work or driving cars while stoned that would be havoc.

I never saw someone die of marijuana but I'm sure when you smoke it, the smoke itself harms you. Now i dont know if it harms your lungs or brain because I havnt read anything with convincing proof about it.

But like some other dude said, the plant itself isnt dangerous

Eh i find this a false statement in a way because marijuana dealers are a lot less cared about compared to dealers of high end drugs such as cocain etc. The government will act on marijuana dealers and such but its not on the high priority list.

But yes, I live in Australia and i'd love to see weed legalized because i just love to smoke itttt :D

I don't see the big deal on legalizing it, the government will make a lot more money from tax incoming from it. It isn't as dangerous as some stuff that is already legal to buy (Alcohol) and incense is legal, outside city limits around where I live (however if your caught with it and a pipe you can be charged) and some people smoke it even though it is horrible for your health and gives you some off high that feels like it's trying to trick you into being high.

Alcohol is legal and is more addicting than marijuana, but there is no real underground dealing in it. What would dealers see in marijuana if it's legal?

I think it should be legalized but have a degree of control on it. Eg. No more than a certain quantity per person, not used more than a certain amount during a certain period of time etc.

I know loads of people who smoke weed and don't seem to have experienced any negative effects whatsoever.

And anyway, people are allowed to wreck their bodies with cigarettes and alcohol - why not let them experiment with weed too?
