I asked my math teacher the following question every day:

When will I use this in Real Life?

Generally, anywhere in the world you would do brackets first.

    48/12 = 2.

    Agreed

    Division
    Multiplication

Problem with those 'rules' is that division and multiplication have an equal priority.
What I learned is that then you just do them from left to right.

12*6/3= 36 (from left to right)
    12*6/3= 24 (division first)

The calculators I have lying around all said 36 was the correct ansewr.

Why is there even discusion about this lol... its ofc 288

Havent u guys learnt around the age of 8-9 that multiplication and division have equal priority (just as addition and substraction) and are thus solved from left to right? -.-

Seriously though to get two you have to treat the equation like

    48÷(2(9+3))

    which is different to

    48÷2(9+3)

That order of operations thing you are all posting is wrong. Division and multiplication are ranked equally. If you equate the brackets first (which is correct) you get 48 ÷ 2 * 12 which equals 288. Equating brackets doesnt extend to expanding them in regards to external integers.
