Ddos?

I recently heard about this scam people use in runescape about "DDosing."

has anybody heard of this?

it's where they are dueling/pking and they use an application to crash their opponent out of the server.

i know its not allowed but are there ways to prevent it?

 

They cannot do this unless they have your IP address, which they probably won't.

 

Its no application its more a series of computers linked together that when combined flood your internet connection so it greatly increases lag or actually disconnects you, i tried to explain it as simple as i could. As the above poster said they need your IP address clearly.

Quite annoying when your pking in max gear an all of a sudden you see connection lost.

People can get your IP various ways the easiest way i have seen personally is off admins on ventrillo. Yeah so watch out broslice

 

Can't do it unless they have your IP and even then, you can just reset your router and causes a changed IP usually

 

You cannot DDoS people in RuneScape, unless you know their IP. The IP can NOT be obtained in RuneScape itself.

 

Oh and also, if you're scared people have your IP, follow these steps:
- Click "Start" (bottom left of computer screen)
- Click "Run"
- Type in "cmd"
- Type in "/ipconfig release"
- Wait 30 seconds - 1 minutes (you'll be disconnected from the internet during that time)
- Type in "/ipconfig renew"

This should work

You shouldn't really need to prevent DDoS'ing. It can only be done if the person has your IP address, which is unlikely.

If you notice that someone is asking you odd things like visiting their website, or joining their irc, then that could be a tactic to get your IP. Be careful of that and that's really the only thing you need to do to prevent DDoS'ing.
