Getting a raise at work.

Finally, after slaving my ass off at work, we are getting raises.

Sad thing is... the raise is only a mere 20-30 cents.
Which will have about no change in my checks.

And we are getting hours cut, because of the raises.

So I'm going to start making less.

I'm a cook. At the "Red Lion Hotels"
The raise is a max of 30 cents.
And they are cutting our hours, to provide raises.
It's stupid, and pointless. And making me lose $.

 

at least they aren't hiring new staff to fill in your hours your losing to give you a raise, imagine that.

Edit: but yea you are getting a really unfair deal.

 

If I was in your situation then I would say, no thanks I prefer my old salary and hours.

 

Unionize?

 

Tot he guy above. Unionizes require alot of $$$ to form and maintain. Meaning he'd have to give 10-20% of his check to the union to pay for lawyers to fight for additional rights and raises ect.

 

Sad part is... they are.

And they aren't normal workers, they are "retards" (Disabled people)
It's fucking stupid.

She thinks it's smart to hire people who are disabled, because we do not have to pay them. The company who takes care of the disabled people pay them, not us.
So she thinks it's free hours and labor, thing is. It's a max of 100 hours per person (So they can get experience, ya know)

But.. since they are disabled/retarded. It takes us extra time to teach them how to do what they are supposed to be doing in that work place.
Extra time.. took the new girl 2 hours to cut 7 pineapples. TWO hours. Takes me like 5-10minutes if I'm in a rush.

It's just stupid. We have 2 retards working for us, causing us more trouble then they are worth. Making me do extra work to keep them busy, extra work to clean up after them, and to explain why certain is why it is.

 

I figured they would add more staff to fill you in. The staff they are hiring are most likely young and usually work for an amount that might not be up to your level. Economy is crazy.

 

By disabled what do you mean?

Like do they have mental problems or just physical disabilities?

Because I don't think it's safe having people with mental problems in the kitchen

 

Is this in America? In Australia most company's give a 2-5% wage increase every year for Trade jobs like electricians plumbers cooks painters builders ect.. Unless you state differently in your work agreements.

But then again price of bread an petrol rise to counter our wage increase lol

And by disabled, I mean retarded.
I told the prepcook girl (The new girl) to label and date everything before she puts it in the walkin fridge.
She was portioning turkey (For sandwiches) and she's like "I have a disability how do you spell turkey"

So... yea.. mental.

 

No one should have to deal with that when trying to do their job. The indignity of baby sitting those people is not what you signed up for >_< I hope things work out in the end.
