This would be a great idea; if the turnout wasn't so....Risky; I mean there's always the chance of getting banned etc, but really it's kind of sad that you can make more money via an online game than the actual stock marketing :p. Quite interesting I must say.

I actually did this. Kind of differently though, I took a more risky route.

I invested 500€ into RSGP for $1/M. I made a staker, and invested in some santas and masks. I eventually staked up to eventually a full set. I plan on keeping them for about a couple years. Pure profit except for the 500€ I spent initially.

I mean, you could say that with any investment. Hindsight is 20/20.

Anyways, I am unsure if a Blue Party Hat will be a good investment for the next 4 years to come. It is just an interesting observation. It rings true for all Discontinued Items, most were about 1/6 of the current prices 4 years ago.

At the end of the day, the investment you are making is that RS will grow in popularity. That is was truly makes Discontinued Items go up, and also increases gold prices as a whole.

/facepalm you invest in different individual shares, not a share that comprises of the trend of 500.
Think outside the box not inside.

Parents gave me 10k to spend on the share market when I was 14. My portfolio is now around $17,000.

If I can do it how the hell can't professional stock brokers?

Clearly you are incompetent at investments and lack lateral thinking.

True, I'm contemplating selling off a few rares just because of the introduction of Stellar Dawn.

More likely that it would draw more people away than bring more people in? Who knows...Who knows..

Besides the dangers of a Runescape update or Jagex banning your account, other drawbacks of trading in Runescape include chargebacks, finding buyers, scammers, etc etc etc.

Sure, the profits are nice; but it's significantly more difficult to proportionally large sums of money in Runescape rather than the stock market.

i'd rather spend $2k on something else other than pixels lol. i know u say it could be a good investment but think how embarrassed u would be if rs closed or no free trade etc, u just lost 2k on a internet game.

Why would it make rares more expensive? When people such as Chessy gets hacked, more rares gets in circulation since the hacker probably sold them in GE, available for anyone to purchase. Adding 1000 thousand Santa hats to the supply/demand scale would only make the price drop.

It's like the diamond market IRL, people hold on to them to keep the prices high, if everyone starts selling them the prices will drop.

I'll agree with you on that one, I've been RWT'ing, bug abusing and macroing like never before, not a single account has been banned/wiped.

Go ask your parents if they'd let you invest their money in a game on the internet.

You're looking at it the wrong way, it is pixels yes, but they are pixels with a price tag on them, and as R2p previously said; The chance of getting banned these days are extremely slim.

Having that said, I wouldn't invest my money long term on RS due to the fact that Jagex is too unpredictable. They may just come up with an update tomorrow making you unable to trade someone you've never met before. Still though, there is BIG money to be made from RS if you know what you're doing.

    Lmao made my day.
Nice analysis - gotta give you that :p
But, but there's always a chance of getting banned, as it isn't allowed, so you might just end up reaping NO profits from your investments, and there is no stability in updates - free trade can be removed anytime again -__-
Plus you can't just sum it up by taking the rise in NASDAQ and DOW JONES, if you're constantly investing you can easily make profits - its incomplete information..Just cause it rose more doesn't mean that its a better way :p

Very, very interesting approach. I must say your 100% correct, it's a perfect medium term investment, but who knows how long jagex will be around for though?

I'm if you've read the whole thread...
I just keep it safe, invested, returned my investment, playing with the rest of the rares till I got enough gp equal to a lagre amount of irl. Then i'll wait till the items raise.

The only problem is the release of a new game from the hand of Jagex. I'm scared pll will massively stop playing rs and signing up for the other game. Items will be dropped since there're less gold buyers that use it ingame. Well, we'll see :)

I provided that link because you said Warren Buffet. That was his company.

Your individual experience of getting a good find/straight up lucky, doesn't prove or disprove anything.

I could go to a casino, play one hand of poker for $10,000. If I win, that doesn't mean "oh ho ho it should be easy for anyone to make $10,000/day. I'm not even a pro"

    To clarify, I valued:

2007 RS GP @ $3.00/M (I bought it for considerably less in 2007, this is a conservative number)

2011 RS GP @ $0.75/M (Actually ~Market Price for Chinese companies)
