ok here is my set up for mage boxing (btw 97 cmb)

FUCKING HELL, AGAIN, I will repeat this once again.
DEFENCE, does not MATTER in mage boxes, your defence in magic is completly determined by your Magic Level and not defence, at all.
But yes, you should get 99 hitpoints as right now, people have a big advantage over you.

Nope, defence does not matter.
Only magic effects your defence against it.
I'm positive.

 

Defence does play a role in Mage boxing.

Defence accounts for 30%, magic 70%..... So it matters but not as much, you just have 30% less of a chance of winning if the other guy has 99 defence and you 1. If you have 70 defence for example, the chances of the maxed player winning won't be much higher than your own, maybe 1-3% or so....

 

Defense does AND doesnt matter.
30% of Mage Defense is based on your DEFENSE level
70% is based on your MAGIC level

Truly, if you are fighting pures your level, this shouldnt be a problem.

I am 74 HP, 94 Magic with VECNA and I can easily take down a 99 mage 80 hp guy

If defense plays role in MB then its VERY LOW, anyways, you should get max hp, and you're ready for some good stakes.

Not really, for the first hit you can use any spell. I go for smoke barrage since it poisons the opponent, this could mean the difference between win or lose. Once damage has been done to your HP, using blood barrage is the way to go.

i have 99 mage 94 def, when i mage box my friend 99 mage 99 def, he always wins by a large margin, i splash a lot, he doesn't

What affects my magic defense?

Magic defense depends on your Magic skill level, Defense level and equipment you are wearing.

Honestly - I do it with my friend also ALL the time - He is 45 defence, I am 99.
Exact same mage level, it's 50/50 whom wins.
It's a common misconception as I said, just because the Rswiki says it, doesn't mean it's completely accurate, the same with www.wikipedia.org

 

Get 99 hp, and atleast 90+ defence.
Then it'll be good
