    Is This a Fake?

I recently received an e-mail from "Jagex Ltd" on my Hotmail account saying I have received an infraction due to Major Macroing Offense. However, I have no known RuneScape account with the e-mail (I actually might, but have forgotten if so).

The e-mail was also sent to multiple e-mail addresses. I'm pretty sure a business would directly send a e-mail directly one-on-one.

His e-mail is: [email protected] (a Russian e-mail??)

But what boggles me is this: he doesn't provide any attachments and adds a legitimate link to the RuneScape site...

    Here is the message-

    Is This a Fake?

Yes, definately a phising email. I almost fell for one of these once. Remember that Jagex will NEVER ask you for your password unless it's a login, and when your on a runescape login screen make sure the adress in the adress bar is the real runescape. It should have a green this saying "Secure Jagex Ltd" Or something like that. Just giving you a heads up. Never fall for these emails written by silly 9 year olds.

The thing that bothers me is that the link actually leads me to the green-barred legitimate RuneScape website. Is there still a risk in clicking the link, or is it just some sort of useless trick?

Well I know that. I didn't enter any information, but I did click on the link before I posted this thread, and it's the RuneScape website.

You sure? It has a green bar next to the address saying "Jagex Limited (GB)" and says it's verified to be safe by DigiCert Inc. It's identical to the one found on the warning image when you click on "Login" from the RuneScape homepage.

    Is This a Fake?

    Just DON'T.

It's simple, go onto the RuneScape Website > Account Management > "Appeal Offence/ban" and you can see if you have actually got one.

I wasn't planning on logging in, since as I said in the OP, I forgot I even had the account; it was probably one of my suicide bots. I was just making sure if I needed to make the effort to check for keyloggers with Malwarebytes.

If the address bar doesn't have runescape.com then it's a phishing site. If it does have runescape.com then it most probably isn't unless your host file has been edited.

Definitely do not click the link. Jagex will never email you to your email address. If they need to speak to you they will contact you VIA your RuneScape inbox.

I wouldn't worry, everyone is getting a lot of bullshit e-mails claiming they are from jagex at the moment, more than likely another one.

    Is This a Fake?

I just clicked the link he posted and it leads to the REAL Jagex secured page.
Just a failed phish attempt, even if you would have entered your info you'd be safe, he just linked you to Jagex's real log-in page anyways LOL

EDIT : Yeah it's legit, tried entering "gsgggrgser" and it failed, so this dude must have just failed at phishing.

    Is This a Fake?

If you receive any email from Jagex with the exception of membership upgrade confirmation emails is a fake. easy.

Its quite simple if you ever get a email from Jagex asking you to click on a link its a fake(unless you request it for a email registration or something). easy

Point being if you get a email from Jagex and it doesnt have to to with something you are aware of like upgrading your account or registering email then its a fake.

Assume they are all fakes. nuff said.
