As soon as I realized you could play games on the internet I have been hooked. Then from there it branched off into MMO's.

    Video Games An Addiction

I never got seriously addicted to video games.
This is how it goes for me:
    -Start a new game
-Go through the "OMG THIS IS EPIK" stage
-Play a lot for 2-3 weeks
    -Get bored and quit

Rinse and repeat, I play a lot after school after H.W and stuff, never really affected my school grades

Someone seems like there in denial.

I'm kidding, but I'm a bit curious to how old you are?

This thread is for people who arn't neccessarily addicted to anything, but they did go through a phase in their lives where they played video games for excessive amount of periods that led to many negatives. Many of these negatives will not be noticed until you have passed the "gaming phase" in your life.

Oh and I did feel that your analogy between basketball and videogames/TV is a bit weak. If anything I would say that basketball is a positive addiction which benefits you physically and mentally. I would say that watching TV/playing videos is more of a negative addiction as it may stimulate your brain in some ways, but physically is not benefical to you.

The thing you may not understand yet either is that one day life just hits you hard. You begin to have to handle intense school work, studying, a job, and building relationships. One of the first places your going to cut time to achieve all of this is the amount of time you spend playing video games and wathcing tv. At that point where your no longer devoting 5 to 6 hours a day towards video games your just kinda like, "Wow, I usto think playing those games was so awesome. Now I am kind of regretting playing so much and realising how much it fucked up things."

I'm not starting a debate here, instead just trying you help you understand more of what we are talking about.

I wouldn't say I was addicted, but I did spend 8-10 hours a day on WoW when I first started out, you know leveling and such. Then the only time I came on was for raids and for friends.

However, I do think addiction can happen. I believe many players may NEED the game or associate better with the game than reality, which can lead to a lot of problems. Eventually you'll snap out of it, like Rsplayer31 said.

Very well stated! He does seem in a denial and playing 6 hours a day is more on the verge of addiction in my book. Thanks for the back there :p

How can you possibly justify playing video games for six hours a day.

ON topic : Seriously addicted, I would say yes at one point. I used to play DotA back in seventh grade for as much as a I could. Once I got into high school, I took up competitive gaming and adopted gaming from a sports style perspective. I'd have set practices and only play up to three hours a day at most. That was easily the most balanced and controlled way to play, and it was still fun for me.

Now, Gaming at this point in my life is a business.

People with addictions often avidly deny they're addicted out of sheer natural reflex. 6 hours a day every day devoted to a video game can be easily considered an addiction, and your textbook response to being confronted on the matter only helps prove it.. Just an observation

Basically the same as me. I just go through a rotation of the same games, adding a new one every so often.

my current obsession is LoL, it was WoW before.

I used to wait till my parents were asleep and sneak around the house to play Runescape with my brother. That was several years ago and currently I'm addicted to WoW but not to an extent that effects my life.

Having pretty strict parents growing up I was never able to become addicted thankfully.

Back then i thought no.. but now i realise YES.

    Runescape
    Diablo 2
    Age of Empires/Mythology
    Runescape
    Cod: 4
    Cod: WaW
    Cod: MW2
    Cod: Black Ops
    Runescape

That is the chronological order of things I've been addicted to. Full on addicted. 4+ hours a day on school day, waking up at 5am, before my parents to play until about 11am when they woke up, then went downstairs ate, talked to them for an hour, watched tv etc, then went upstairs played from about 12pm-6pm, then got shouted at by parents, played from 10pm til 1am. Did this every weekend..

I've been playing rs for the last 2 months and am now deciding to sell my accounts and leave the retched game :)

    I'm addicted to... computers.

I admit it, not so much gaming, just going online, talking to people, sometimes even Runescape. I have my phases, but it makes life difficult.

And hell, I would hate to "try" to break this habit because... I'm going to college for this. Yes, Computer Science/Information Technology.
