    Rift vs WoW?

Hey guys. I've been playing WoW for awhile now, but I'm starting to get bored of it. I noticed this game "Rift" however, I'm not familiar with it. Can someone give me some background info on the game? What's the max level? What do you do? Can you PvP? Etc? All help appreciated!

    Rift vs WoW?

Hey, I just started rift a few days ago. I'm only level 21 (out of 50) at the moment but leveling has definitely been a positive experience and all together more enjoyable then leveling 1-85 was in wow for me. Pvp battlegrounds are about the same but you have to keep in mind rift is a few months old and so isn't completely polished yet.

No clue about PvE dungeons/raids sorry but throughout each zone Rifts spawn. These rifts spawn waves of mobs, when you defeat one mob a second harder one spawns and so on untill you face a final boss, when he is defeated the rift despawns and you get loot and tokens (when you save up enough tokens you spend them on more loot). These rifts also spawn invaders which are difficult mobs who travel from a rift to a local town/quest hub and when defeated also award loot. Defeating these rifts gives about as much xp as a quest gives so you can break up the monotony of questing by going out and shutting down rifts xD

No clue if I answered what you were asking so feel free to ask more questions or report as spam :D

    Rift vs WoW?

I quit WoW in late January and soon after I found RIFT online. I preordered it to get into BETA and played the BETA for 2 weeks or so before the early headstart came out on Feb 24th. I played the game for a week or so until I got extremely bored of it, and I only got to level 18.

I played the BG's, did professions, did the rift stuff (closing them), quested, got my first mount etc

Mainly it's just WoW refurbished but it's not as polished because it's brand new.

I eventually just sold my Rift account for 30m rsgp because I was that bored.

So leveling is a lot easier? How long would 1-50 take me?

Thanks. Anything else I should know about this game? Is it worth the $50?

    Rift vs WoW?

It's the exact same game with different objectives and names for everything.

Imagine Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's plot mixed with WoW's gameplay, and you get Rift.

Do not buy this game if you're trying to escape WoW due to boredom of it or whatever. I was bored of WoW and decided to give this game a try and it feels like the exact same game without the polished details you get from being developed over the years. The story is a cool and not very exploited theme, but that doesn't make up for it's ripped off feeling.

My personal testimony, therefore, is "not worth it at the moment."

    Rift vs WoW?

Thanks for the response. Well basically my main question is, how much faster is leveling in Rift than leveling in WoW? One of the main reasons I quit WoW was because I was getting bored of my level 85 DK and did not want to start from scratch again. I like this idea in Rift however that you have 4 main classes to choose from and then a number of sub-classes to choose from so you are not locked into that one specific class. So basically how much easier is leveling 1-50 in Rift versus 1-85 in WoW. What is the best method to leveling? And finally what class is recommended as I am a PvP type of person.

    Thank you guys!

All classes are competitive in Pvp and youll find that there are several play styles within each class. As for leveling I'd recommend questing while completing rifts in between.

    Rift vs WoW?

Well my last question is, do I have to pay a monthly fee like WoW? If so how much does it cost and can I find it in stores? I want to buy the game but I have no idea if any game-time comes with it or what-not.

I believe the subscription fee is the same as WoWs.

I probably wont be buying it - too many games try to compete but I am yet to find one better than WoW. Aion was one of the ones I had huge hope for, it turned out to be a slightly improved version of guild wars; no match for WoW. Although I agree with you about WoW levelling being boring and repetitive, once you have got the levelling out of the way it sure is a fun game. I currently have 3 85s and am loving every minute of it. Gogo holydins

Alright well I guess my last question is, when I buy the game does it come with a 1 month free subscription or anything? Or am I forced to be a subscription on top of the game itself?

    Rift vs WoW?

In all honesty, stuff rift the £10 a month is no where near worth while. Since guild wars 2 is coming out in September, it'll be completely free. Guild wars 2 has totally re-built the MMO gaming experience from the ground up, it's not a 'refurbished' version of anything, it has all the function keys, and quick processes that you love from WoW except it's COMPLETELY re-done, the character classes are different, the game play isn't simply click and go, there's an actual skill to it. I recommend checking out the beta play, and seeing for yourself how amazing it is.

    Rift vs WoW?

I appreciate your opinion however, I was never a great guild wars fan. The main reason I want to get into Rift is because it is still a rather young game and as it continually expands I can be there every step of the way to experience the game. The thing I did not like about WoW is I started on BC content when I first got the game and WotLK was coming out a week after I bought BC. I really couldn't get into the game and found myself in a rush to keep up with everyone else. On a side note, I really need some assistance choosing a class for Rift. I like the idea of a marksman/Ranger however I was never a big hunter player on WoW so I would have to teach myself how to kite which shouldn't be too difficult. Basically does a caster/ranged DPS class have more of an edge in PvP? I also read something in the patch notes that casters no longer have to turn around when melee's are attacking them and can cast from behind their back. Although I do believe this is unfair does it give them an edge on their opponents?

Bought the game and I just want to let people know who are thinking about buying this game that it is really worth it. I enjoy it a lot and don't plan on returning to WoW anytime soon. Go rift :)

Eh, bit of a short period of time to make a full decision.

Please reply again in a week, or maybe a months time, I would very much be interested to see the result.

    Rift vs WoW?

In reply to this. I have already gotten bored of Rift X_X. At first the game is awesome do not get me wrong there. But at some points when I'm constantly grinding mobs and doing quests that require killing things over and over I get that nasty taste of WoW all over again. I think Rift has a better concept than WoW and it is less cartoon-ish however, if your coming from WoW to play Rift your not missing out on much. So basically, Rift is a great game but not something that will make me play till the end-game. I got to level 30 and I'm planning on selling my rift account. There's your update for those wondering! :)
