Euthanasia - For or Against?

Are you for Euthanasia being lawful, or are you against Euthanasia being lawful?

Here is a definition for Euthanasia: "the act of killing someone painlessly (especially someone suffering from an incurable illness)"

It's not hard to argue both sides of the spectrum so I would like everyone to put their views forward, whether it be im/moral, religious, personal experience, ethics, law, anything.


My personal standpoint is for Euthanasia to be lawful with guidelines.

When you are voting in the poll, assume that if Euthanasia is lawful it will not be abused.

 

I don't believe euthanasia should be legal. When it is your time to go you should go the way you were meant to go, whether it be in your sleep, from a heart attack, or something as bad as a car accident. I do however believe if somebody is on there death bed they should be comforted, put in the most relaxing environment, and in worst cases given pain medicine such as morphine.

 

I'm all for it. I don't want to be in the hospital or hospice on my death bed in pain just because my selfish family wants to keep me alive. I and anyone else should have the right to die a quick painless death.

 

I disagree with this. Have you seen someone with a problem and near death in tons of pain being put on morphine? That drug the person up so bad that they don't know their own name, till they slip into a coma and die. Who wants to get drugged on morphine and die a slow painful death? Most of them don't know they're in pain because they are so far out of their minds on the drugs it's ridiculous, fuck that shit.

 

I think it should be legal. If someone is one their death bed and they are dying in pain, they should have the option to die peacefully. They shouldn't have to suffer through life if its extremely painful.

 

Nobody has the right to take another person's life under no circumstances.

 

Morphine is what is used in Euthanasia. If someone is in so much pain that that no amount of Morphine other than an amount that will kill them painlessly is administered to them then would that be alright?

Lets reshape this whole scenario.
You were kidnapped, and are about to be tortured agonizingly to death. You'd already been tortured beforehand to the point where you'd just wish you could die and end your misery.
You see a knife on the ground.
Would you or would you not slit your throat? (Whether you can bring yourself to do it is irrelevant)

Your argument stems from the fact that it is morally and ethically wrong to take another person's life.
Obviously you disregard the fact that the person is consenting and wanting a painless death.
Is is then that your saying that it is less morally and ethically wrong to watch someone suffer in agony, helpless to do anything about it, most of the time incontinent?

There is only one other way to legally kill yourself in this scenario; refuse being medicated in order to bring about death.

There's a difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide, and I think a few of you may be confused.

Assisted suicide is the act of helping someone who wants to kill themselves, generally because they have an incurable illness. Euthanasia, on the other hand, is deliberately killing someone to end their pain - in Australia atleast, these scenarios are treated as interchangeable in the justice system, despite the fact that they are clearly different.

I am for assisted suicide. I see no wrong in giving someone the means to end their lives in circumstances like incurable bedridden illnesses.

 

What exactly does this even mean? I can never tell if, when people say this, it's religious talk or some other kind of superstition. There is no "time to go" you die whenever you should so happen to die.

 

I am definitely FOR Euthanasia, if someone is living a life of suffering and pain who are we to say whether or not they should live or die? If they are of able mind and ask for it then we should respectfully oblige!

I completely agree with you. If its my time, its my time. Why keep me alive if I'm just... a vegetable destined to do NOTHING. Come on, its just costing the world money, my family money, and wasting resources/rooms in a hospital.

 

It's not neccessarily religious. Nobody is going to know when they die at least I hope not.... So when it happens or you're on your death bed you should just accept your fate and say your goodbyes. I never want to die in all honestly but it happens to everyone eventually and it sucks

Im For And Against

I Have been a little bit suicidal in my life but i dont deserve to give up life when im fortunate enough to have a home have a house and have people that love me

So for people who just want to die for the point of just not wanting to live but have nothing wrong with them im against it

For people who have terminal illnesses, people who can't move or walk and people who are deaf and blind or have no mobility in all bodilyfuction's, then if they want to do this then im for it.

I could not imagine a more scary place than not being able to move at all being both blind a deaf and feeling scared and empty and blind.

Is it fair to force people to live that can't see or hear and have no bodily fuction's, it's not living, it's merely existing

 

This is if they the person them self request it, if someone is in that much pain that they would rather end it now than prolong it until death. I would not be so cruel as to say no and deprive them the only remedy to their unexplainable pain.
