Astral Projection?

I watched the movie Insidious last night, and it had to do with astral projection. SO I did some research wondering what it was. What I found was quite interesting, it states the ways to "Astral Project" in step by step instructions. So what I'm wondering is:

What are your thoughts on it?
Do you think it's safe to try?
What happens if I try it and can't get back into my body?

I think i want to try it but I'm kinda afraid.
