Homosexuality a choice?

Do you think homosexuality is a choice or are you born homosexual?


I've tried researching it but the answers I get are mixed. Some sites say it's half genetic and half choice but I'm not sure myself.

Just wanted to see what other people thought.

 

Pointless thread.
You can't choose to be gay.
You can only choose to actually date the same sex or not.
The attraction to them is still there.

I think the males attraction to females are hard coded in our brain.

But the same-gender attraction might be a mutation which then became an actual gene eventually, not entirely sure.

Some people might have a very traumatic past dealing with women, and might have a mental block towards them.

 

Yeah I have a gay friend and I remember him telling me the only reason he is gay is for the sex. He said he could never see himself spend his life with another man. And that most gays are in it for the sex.

I don't necessarily think it's a choice, but I don't really think you're born with it either. I think there can be things in life that influence your sexuality, but nothing to make you change over night or anything.

 

Imo, I honestly don't know.
I used to think it was a choice, but you can't choose who you have feelings for.
Simple as that, if you're straight, you can't like every girl, if you're gay, you don't choose it exactly, you're attracted to the same sex for a reason, whatever it may be.

 

Not a choice. I don't think people would wanna choose being gay if they had a choice. Unless they're REALLY gay.

There is most likely a genetic component to it but there is almost defiantly a cultural or experiential component to it. The only choice involved is choosing to act on your feelings. There also may be a social factor that stems from wanting to be different and consciously deciding that you are gay. However, I do not think this would last much past your adolescence.

Totally agree with you.. I think my bringing up as being the only girl with two older brothers may have had play on me being a lesbian.. But then again... It is my choice I like pussy... =]

You know what both those statements have in common? They're premises connoting an insult without evidence.

I thought there would be more people saying it is a choice.

 

Every gay person I know said they'd rather be straight, one even said the other day ' I hate being gay ' .

Well considering that I personally was for a while, and then decided not to be any longer (yes, this was a concious decision on my part) I'm going to say yes, you can choose.
