Would you vote for an atheist?

Religious preference doesn't matter to me as long as I share your political beliefs. If you make up your mind before an issue is even discussed, you're a damn fool

 

To all the people answering No I'd like them to respond to this.

If an atheist represented your views entirely and you were 100% for his political ideals, and the other alternative vote was to someone of your own religion who had conflicting views of what you wanted who would you vote for?

 

Depends, if his political views suck no. Depends on their views, won't judge them whether they are religious or not

 

Having no religious belief doesn't necessarily change someones political views, it doesn't bother me either as im quite against some religions. My way of thinking of it is that if you are completely indulged into the religion and do everything they tell you to do you really dont think for yourself so really atheist FTW.

 

Religion has nothing whatsoever to do with politics, I don't see why anyone in their right mind would vote no.

I voted yes in the poll. However, religion isn't a great matter that would ultimately lead to my decision. There are many other factors which play a role in my final decision. I know quite a few people who are Atheist and they are normal people. Many of them actually select the Bible as their favorite read which might be surprising to some. I don't see how religion would be a key factor unless different views on morals come into play.

Of course I would but it doesn't really matter what personality you have it's how you make a difference/impact on your role to society (so far its been pretty lame past few years) im an athiest myself so its all good

 

Honestly, and please ignore this if you feel i'm just being ignorant due to my own personal preferences, but... To me, being atheist shows me that someone is actually smarter, and usually agrees with the type of things I agree with.

This is why the constitution for America has Freedom of Religion?

For your statement to be true if implies religion is the only flaw in these two countries, as the exclusion of it results perfection.

 

Do you know what secular means? It refers to the functioning of the government not the beliefs of the people.

 

If they shared my political beliefs then yes.

 

A candidate's ideologies and their background should be completely unconnected. I'd like to say that Bush got elected by being a good candidate, but in truth it's likely because of his religious background. That and the fact that he wasn't actually elected.

That said though, of course I would vote for an Atheist president. In fact, I would prefer it, because their opinions wouldn't be objectified by an ancient book. However, if a Christian president kept their beliefs at home, I would have no issue voting for them. Same goes for Jewish or Muslim.

Similarly I'd have no issue voting for a non-white or non-heterosexual president.

In fact, I'd LOVE to see a hispanic, gay, muslim president in the office, just to prove that it can happen (assuming he shares my political ideals). Too bad that it won't happen any time soon because America is founded on bigotry.

I'd rather vote for an atheist than a religious man.

Religion has before had an influence on peoples judgement, and I myself am an atheist, and think the majority of religious people are oblivious to obvious logic and sense in the world.
