Use your USB flash drive for RAM.

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first guide.

In this guide I will be showing you how to use a USB Flash drive for extra ram on your computer.
This should be a big help to certain people who have lots of usb's lying around.

Also to revert back to using your computer's Ram just follow these steps backwards.

Disclaimer: Don´t pull out your thumb drive after you made this settings, because it´s used as virtual RAM device. It may crash your computer if you pull out your thumb drive. I´m not responsible for anything.

Step One: Right click on 'Computer' and click on Properties.

Step Two: Click on 'Advanced' then 'Settings'

Step Three: Click 'Advanced' again and select 'change'

Step Four: This is the complicated part, and due to the personal date on my usb flash i cannot provide a picture

    Uncheck the top box.
It will now show you your computers ram aswell as your usb's.
For example if your usb is 2gb take away 5 from it (Always subtract 5 no matter what)
    2000 - 5 = 1995
Now type this number in the first box. In the second box you type in the same number
    click "set" and "OK"

Step Five: All done, restart your computer.

Feedback is greatly accepted, thank's for taking the time to read this and have a nice day. ^_^

I'm actually going to do this.. once I find my 340950935243 flash drives.
    Such a good idea o.o

Although.. does it work for win7 home 32bit?
I have 5gb installed, and only 2.5 is readable.
Will that bump it up? Since I know win7 home 32bit can only READ max of 2.5-3gb.

So if I want to use my flashdrive again(take it out) do I just reverse the process?

2gb is actually 2048 mb (if thats what u meant by 2000-5)
    1gb = 1024 mb

Definitely going to try this :)

This works on laptops too yeah?
And also, when you take them out to you have to modify your RAM again?

Very well written and it is a very useful topic. I don't have much to suggest, but I do believe it would be a very useful addition to this guide to show how to actually do this process in reverse and not just say do this backwards. This would be something useful for people who aren't very computer savvy to follow, as the rest of the guide is written like that also.

Nice and useful guide, will use in future if I need it.
And as FlyingToast said, reverse steps would be pretty nice addition.

That's what I was going to ask. Does a 4gig flash drive actually add 4gigs of RAM. Is it equivalent to if I actually installed another 4gigs of RAM?

Again, if I had a 32gig flash drive, would it seriously add 32gigs of RAM to my computer?

    Thanks!
