Prices Increase

I haven't played Runescape is three year, and over five years ago i remember the good old days of selling`rares at the west Varrock bank... good times... used to make a mil per trade, and within a week got to 20mil... I remember the easter eggs were only 3mil at the time.

I recently checked the item prices at zybez and I saw that the easter egg was like 90 mil and said WTFFFFFFFF...


Why are the prices so much higher than they were three to five years ago (Before the grand exchange). The disk of returning used to be like 9mil, now its 164 freaking Mil...... and blue phat used to be 400mil, now its almost 1Bil.

If i kept the disk of returning i would have been freaking rich

 

i suppose people noticed that things get better with age?

Look through your first sentence, actually here i'll outline it for you.

They have of course, risen in price over TIME as they are RARES, they will never come into the game again, thus becoming rarer with age.

 

Even with free trade back then there is a huge difference in the game from five years ago.

Think just how we had to make money back then. I believe that skilling, barrows, kalphate queen were the main ways to make money. Merchanting wasn't as big as it has developed into.

Updates such as new bosses, skills, easier ways to train skills have all made the game simple from what it was. Just over 5 years peoples account are that much better. Money is much easier to obtain these days.

Simply put money then does not have the same worth it does today. I'm pretty sure then 100M made you rich, and was rare to see. Today that is almost like seeing 1Billion.

 

Even 1B is becoming common, so many people have 1B.

OT: They went up because no more are coming into the game.. ever.

 

More money is in the game now.

Rares are getting rarer. So price goes up.

 

If there aren't very many in the first place and they aren't coming into the market, of course they're going to rise.

 

I know that.. but I was looking for the kind of answer rsplayer31 posted, about the new methods of money making etc...

Sucks that people can obtain 1Bil easily. back then 1bil was like the richest people in runescape, people with all Phats etcc

 

I think with the induction of very expensive items like 3a and such, the demand for more cash is much higher now.

1bil is not easy to obtain. Many get it from staking, which there is a risk involved.

 

Imagine if you had like 30 blue party hats.... Which is possible..

You would get a teacher's salary in one day if you sold all the mils 30bil... Omfg you can actually make a living of runescape if your pro....

Peeps make sick cash staking but in order for them to make that cash someone has to lose it, and bots bring in cash of course

 

Two reasons:

1 - Rares will always become more valuable over time.
2 - GP has inflated.

 

You guys are all idiots if you honestly think that Rares are actually RARE. Thats not why they're high in price, considering when the GE existed in 2009 they were sold for nothing. Purples went for 30-40M cash + junk. Then the top 5% of the wealth in RS has hoarded tons of them, and stakers, which means they can basically control the prices now.

All those high level stakers, like winallday, people like them, hoard rares. So think again before you say "they increase over time", more like people hoard them over time. Go on the RS forums and shit, everyone has a partyhat, they arent even rare, and I think its stupid that they're so sought after now, but a year ago they were junk.

EDIT : Take a look at that bitch Chessy018, 12+ hat sets and 1000 Santas. Guess those are all rare right? Theres a few hundred players who have banks very similar to hers.

Everyone also just says accounts get banned those they become more rare, or they get unbanned/ people quit.

I feel like all of that is just an excuse so that these people can make even more money off of their items.

In this game, I can't see many people just going cold turkey quitting and never coming back. Eventually they will log into that account again, see how much rares are worth, and maybe put it on the market.

 

With the BAR account thread and Jagex unbanning so many old accounts, TONS of rares are being re-introduced into the game, but do you see any of them dropping? No. Because they're being snatched up as soon as those people come back and see their prices and sell them.

 

Because there discontinued, the items get lost and disapear.
