Does Runescape Gold Stealers Ever Get Procecuted?

I have seen daily their has been people scamming people involving real life money and RuneScape gold but my question is has anyone ever actually been taken to court and punished severely for this bad behavior or do they just get away with it never to be seen again?

 

There are a lot of factors at play here.

The amount $
Personal information of the scammer
Cost of a lawyer
Proving a case in court

These things make it not worth the time or effort to bring up a case.

 

Most likely not, unless you have most of the scammers IRL information. RWT isn't even legal according to jagex's tos.

 

unfortunately 90% of the time they get away with their crime.

Unfortunately, not a single court in the western world will prosecute this kind of crimes.
It's way too complicated to prove and a complete waste of taxpayers money (no matter the country)...
Imagine having to justify the costs related to a prosecution of that level in front of a court by saying "yeah, he stole virtual coins of gold in a medieval clicking simulator from 2007"
The very rare instances where scammers were prosecuted was because of additional offenses such as doxxing, swatting, DDOSing, etc. and not just scamming gold.

 

pretty much this, there have been cases but usually it would be for very large amounts and with other IRL factors in play in order to get an actual case against them, very very rare

 

This is literally it. The recovery costs can out weigh the value.
