VPSes for botting - Talk about them here!

Your cpu is a bottleneck, I'm no expert but I would estimate 12 min.

 

I don't think you're supposed to get openvz for botting. I've heard of vps' getting turned off because of it. Just get Xen..

 

They're out of stock of 4's again. Only reason I ask about openvz is seerhost uses it and it should be more then capable, but they said they don't allow java on their openvz plans so nevermind.

 

I recently rebooted my VPS and tried to log in. It said the connection timed out, and then it said connection refused.

So I shut it down, and then booted it again, and the same thing happen.

Any ideas?

 

Photon does not allow botting on their OpenVZ containers, they do however allow botting on their Xen plans.
Also I would like to add, Xen warp 3 also makes an excellent Minecraft server, the performance is amazing.

I have been looking at PhotonVPS and I understand that for botting the package seems to be Xen for this, are any of the OS's they provide better than another(I am familiar with ubuntu) or is it just personal preference for that matter.

 

I prefer Centos 5 as it's light weight and low resource. My opinion, although I have not tried all the other distros.

What Photon Zen package is recommened for running 2 soulwars bots 24/7?

 

Does that have a gui? Also how much ram and cpu does the os use when performing no extra tasks?

 

I'd recommend Warp 3, you will be able to run 2 SW bots also you'll get extremely stable performance. You can even get away with a Kminer/AFP on the side. Warp 2 might be able to squeeze it off if tweaked right, but I suggest Warp 3 for your task.

Yes a gui, it looks like a neat little desktop with a launch bar. And very minimal resource usage, almost unnoticeable.

 

does it matter if I use 64 or 32 bit on a 512ram vps?

 

Yes and no. But I suggest using a 32bit OS with that amount of RAM.

I recently got the Xen 4 package from PhotonVPS and can't get even a few sorc bots (I use them as a benchmark for my VPSes) to run above 30% success. I have multiple other VPSes that run 5 bots each, and two Xen 2 servers that run 2 bots each very well. I've tried reinstalling everything (including the OS) several times, and messaged customer support about a possible problem.

It doesn't make any difference whether it's 3 bots or 5 bots - performance is equally shitty. I always run all of the bots in safe mode on worlds with low pings based on the location of the server itself at xmx400. When running 5 bots (~20-30% success rates), the physical memory load is hardly above 30% and the CPU load (on each CPU) is also very low. I've tried tweaking and reinstalling everything I could possibly think of, but to no avail.

Even when viewing the server with VNC, things seem sluggish. I'm not sure why, because my Xen 2 servers are located in the same place and usually have almost no visible delay. The only thing I can think of is that it's the server's connection itself, seeing as the CPU and memory loads are so low and yet bot performance is abysmal.

I'm having an issue with Putty.. I can't log in to root. It worked a couple days ago but now when I try to log in to root on putty it says access denied. I KNOW my password is correct, but it says denied every time. It's starting to piss me off now and PhotonVPS takes a long time to respond to tickets.

Any ideas?

 

I'm currently setting up another warp 4 now. I'll tell you if I'm having issues, my current warp 4 runs perfectly smooth. Sounds maybe it has some router issue or connection issue. Like I said I'll let you know if I run into problems similar and if I don't I can help you set up yours when I have time. I know you posted your msn, but PM it to me if interested.

Well considering it's now Monday morning, you can expect a response from them today although I can't say for sure but maybe they take breaks sometimes too on weekends. I think I can fix your problem without them, if you would just go to SolusVN panel and log in (its the URL they send you in the email with vps info), Then select yourvps, select change root-password, and set it to the Exact same thing. Now you can try see if that clears up the issue.

 

wouldnt botting with NeXus on a different ip cause your auths to be banned?
