Can players really get arrested for hacking?

i heard about chessy getting hacked, and that they are going to...arrest to hacker? can they even do that? regardless of the monetary value, they are pixels afterall
thoughts?

Have heard of cases like this, if they are true or not is a good question. When you think about the money Chessy had then it's a lot of money and if you lost that money in real life you would go mental.

 

Yes; the true for of hacking can put you in prison.

When you open an online bank account, the number you see is just a few pixels. However it has a direct monetary value attached to it. Say a Runescape phat, while yes it is pixels, it has an indirect monetary value of $100's.

By Hacking, I assume you DO NOT mean botting, but rather DDosing, phishing, database hacking; that form of hacking is illegal.

 

Person on this website, can't leak, posted pictures of it all. Pictures got taken down by the picture hosting website, everyone flaming. The account was fucking loaded, such a rich account.

It's quite inconsistent because they're trying to arrest the person who hacked Chessy018 yet when anyone else gets hacked nothing gets done about it

 

No, police will quite obviously not give a shit about a runescape account. They will be solving real crimes e.g. murder....

 

For hacking a runescape account? I seriously doubt it as there is no real worth to the account.

However, if the methods used are illegal, which most of the time they are, you could get in trouble.

So, YES it is possible. And Chessy018 would actually have a case, since virtual items do have a monetary value. Just look at how it's being traded around, there are even companies dedicated to it.

ermm isn't jagex to blame? Correct me if I'm wrong but he got access to the account by recovering it? So if this is true jagex are the ones who literally let him walk right in, steal 170b and walk back out again.

Considering that he recovered it and did not keylog/phish to get it, and also he didn't manage to actually sell any of it for rl cash (to my knowledge), he should be fine.

Jagex are only concerned with big phish, gold farming companys, hacking websites etc
