    Laptop Help

Hey guys, recently my laptop screen won't turn on. It will initially boot up and then it just goes pitch black. I already unplugged everything and held the power button for 30 seconds to get rid of any static that could have been there and still nothing..Thanks for your time

Describe "initially boot up." Does it load the bios? Does it show loading screens and then go black?

The might have knocked the cable the connects the screen to the rest inside the laptop , I suggest take it in and get in professionally looked at.

It does exactly that ^. I let it sit for a few hours and tried it again and now it works, but idk if it will be a reoccurring problem..

No BSOD, the light went out again...I was using it to type a paper and the colors started fading and getting lighter and finally it went black again. I guess I'm gonna have to take it to some repair shop or something :(

Sounds like your hard drive died.

Or it could be a simple hardware failure. See if you could make it make any noise by holding onto a bunch of keys after the screen goes black. If so, you're hard-drive is OK and you have to get the screen replaced.

It actually sounds like it could be one of a few problems. My first suggestion to you is to plug your laptop into an external monitor and hit alt+f8 (or whatever the send-to-projector key is) and see if using a different screen fixes your problem. If it does, your LCD is fried.

If that doesn't work, download Ubuntu 10.10 on another computer and mount/burn the image to a disk to make an ubuntu bootable cd. Boot up and hold the f12 key, and select "boot from CD" option. You can run ubuntu from cd and use it to check to see if you can find your hard drive. If you can't find your HDD, your HDD is fried.

If everything I said sounds like erzdfbgsbnngnfbdbdb, take it to a repair shop. :p

I'm betting on hard drive failure though.

Adding some clarification to my previous post, LCD and screen are two interchangeable terms (most of the time).

Thanks for the replies, I plugged in an external monitor and it worked so I'm assuming it's the LCD.

Your warranty should cover hardware failures like that if it hasn't expired yet.
