Alright, so I need some opinions.
For a long time little before Graduation from high school I have wanted to join the USMC. I have attended college for a semester and a half it is not for me at this time. I will need to drop 30 pounds before I can enlist. In college and real life I have no clue what I want to do anymore and do not feel that college is best for Me at this time in my life. Thoughts? my dad claims once you leave college you will never go back.

Edit: I do not care about anyones Opinions on the Military or the United States.

I would join the core if it's what you want. Just think that you can go back to college at any time, free through the core.

If you really don't have a clue what you want to do then just sit and think about it for awhile. Don't let anyone tell you what YOU want to do.

I'd say try and keep going to college bud, if it really isn't for you you could try a course that helps with the army (I don't know a particular course but try and find one) this not only keeps you out of all the war but it will help you progress through the ranks in the army if you decide to join later.

My younger brother and I both thought the same things at around the same time. It's called early-college blues. It's the transition from adolescence to adulthood that really puts people in the pits. I chose to stick with college, my brother is still making up his mind. So far I haven't regretted it, which is not to say you will be any different.

I urge you strongly to take at least another semester of school and explore different curriculum. Try a new major, take a plethora of classes, and work on losing that 30 lbs just in case. If college is not right for you after another semester, drop out and enlist (the USMC will pay your loans off for you so it's no-harm no foul).

If you DO join the military, make the recruiters work for you. Make them give you a good deal, don't just accept any other deal. Shop around a bit. Talk to one recruiter, get a good deal, and then talk to the others and make sure you tell them that "X has offered to do x, y, z for me, can you do better?" and make sure you get that shit in writing.

Joining the military is like buying a car. Make them work for you.

Also, the marines are a very focused group of individuals. They are the tip of the spear, and you will more than likely see action. That may not be right for most people (or may be just what they want). Regardless, shop around other branches of the military as well, don't just decide on the marines and stick with it. Regardless of what other people will tell you, the Airforce, National Guard, and Coast Guard are not pussies (I had a recruiter once play video games with me in PlanetSide and when he saw me piloting mossies he tried to convince me to enlist and fly drones for the air force. I told him that I wanted to be part of the action, and his reply was "you're more into the action than the Marines. They rely on you for recon, support, and logistics. Without drone pilots they're running blind. You are just as badass if not more badass as they are, because unlike them you're built to destroy everything in your way, deep behind enemy lines if need be." (That guy was COOL AS HELL btw).

Tldr: Wait it out one more semester, but while doing so keep your options open. Hit the weights and lose that 30 lbs just in case.

I was in the same quandary as you a few years back. I had done a year of college and really wasn't to keen on continuing with it, so I joined the Army. Honestly it was the best thing that happened to me.
I actually LOVE my job, yes it sucks sometimes but overall I never regret my decision. I'm currently working on my masters in criminal justice through the army's accredited online college program. Which is free and I do at my own pace

    You are only young once.

Graduating from a military academy is probably the best start for someone to get a Job. Any employer would look favorably upon you as an employee because of the discipline you've required in order to graduate. Assuming however you didn't want military school and wanted to join the army.

The army is a double edged sword, it's good for some people and bad for others. I honestly do recommend you join the army if college is not for you, the men in the army have my utmost respect for the sheer discipline they endure and the immense training they've undertaken.

You cant go wrong joining an military force, it will give you abilities you once didn't have, and knowledge not known by everyone. A little secret after Basic Training your role in the military will be significantly easier, and it will be smooth sailing from their on out.
