Runescape Lag.. Need Assistance.

Hey guys. I'm getting very agitated with this game and need a quick fix for it. I'm on a MacBook and have played RS on this MacBook for 3 years and never had a problem like this before. Basically, while pking or just around a large sum of people, my computer starts to lag like crazy. The lag is so horrible that I could barely walk around without lag occuring. I try to turn on the runescape music as well and it lags like crazy and sounds like a radio station that is breaking up because something is blocking the radio waves (idk if that is a good analogy or not XD). It's gotten me koed number of times and made me lose over 100m total. Anyways back on topic, basically once this lag occurs I restart my computer and it runs well again for another 30 minutes - 1 hour. Then the lag starts up again and I find myself restarting my comp every hour that I'm online. I've never experienced a problem like this ever and it's beginning to bother me. I don't run any other programs while playing (like msn, etc, etc.). I clear my history, cache, cookies and all that other nonsense. And still am having these problems. What could be wrong with my computer? Is it even my computer? I REALLY need some help and recommendations seeing I have no idea what to do with this mac and if it is time for an upgrade or not. I was considering going to the Apple store but they aren't really gaming experts so I'd rather see what advice you fellow sythe members have. All help appreciated!

*Note* The odd thing is that when I'm by myself questing and doing things where I'm NOT at a bank or pking where there are all these people, my computer is fine.

UPDATE: Downloaded FireFox to try and solve the problem. Clicked "Play Now" and all there is, is a black screen. It does not even ask me if I want to run java. Heres a pic:





Offering a free 20m for someone who can help me resolve this problem. That's right $20 worth of mils ($1/m). I can't take this anymore and don't have the money for a new computer. So how can I solve this problem with FireFox? I tried running fore java as well and am still getting this black screen.

 

have you tried a low-ping world to see if that helps any?

 

I usually PK in world 65 as it is one of the main worlds for PvP. Occasionally I go to 54 where it is less populated and it does seem to do better, but I still experience the same thing within an extra 30 minutes - 1 hour as well.

 

There are several things that come into play as a result of Lag.

-Running extra windows.
-Computer cant dissapate heat.
-Weak computer specs
-Low-speed Internet

Thanks I tried all of these things though. The one thing I might have to do is upgrade a graphics card seeing this is the really old version mac. Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard version. Idk where I can upgrade stuff for it and have scanned the Apple website numerous times.

 

You're playing on safe mode low detail (Fixed mode) with custom settings all the way down right? Like CPU Usage to minimum?

 

Yea same thing for me.. started recently..
Same computer specs and all that, even same world and same crowd, just DC's a lot now.

 

When I first logged on today and RS updated I was lagging and getting DC'ed. :S

 

Do you run in safe mode? Hold "S" while the rs game is loading.

 

Not sure what this safe mode is, can someone elaborate? I have the graphics on minimum setting while I'm playing.

 

Safe mode are the graphics before runescape got all HD.

Click "Play now" then spam your "S" key when it's loading up until it gives you the option of safe mode in your graphics options.

Note - I non stop spammed my "S" key just to be safe when I first found out about it

 

Run Safe mode (Option when you go to custom GFX settings)
Low all settings to a minimum and CPU usage to a minimum

Look at your processes on Task manager and close all things that you don't need.

Thanks for the responses guys. I tried all the stuff recommended and am still unsuccessful. I'm beginning to give up and have no idea what to do. I really don't got money to spend on a new computer. Any more recommendations?

 

When changing settings at the top of the settings screen there are options about what kind of display to run on...Can't log on to check the options right now but theres like 3 of them.

Just test out how smooth your game runs on each of them, I was on my net book last week trying to play some RS and it wouldn't even load the game properly...I changed it from the default display setting and it loaded everything just fine.

I assume that might work for lag as well lol but idk.

You could also check to see if your computer is running any processes that take up high CPU. For example, my laptop always boots up antivirus and other programs that eat my CPU either soon after booting up, or at a certain time after I have booted up. I make sure to shut down all unnecessary processes in Task Manager so that I get maximum performance.

Runescape is laggy. Especially the wilderness worlds.

Though, if it is your computer, I suggest cleaning your registry and junk files.

I use eusing registry cleaner, and my performance went sky high after it found many problems.

CCleaner as well is a good tool.

Also you should make sure that you have low settings on as well

 

That's what I can't tell is if it is the Java connection or my computer itself. The large amount of people pking doesn't help me either. Like I mentioned earlier, when I'm by myself questing my computer is fine. It is when I am in large areas such as banks that my computer gets messed up.

Update: Was pking earlier today. Tab'd out after getting claw rushed and then I got an "Error Game Crashed" Message. First time I'm experiencing this.. I'm really ready to smash my computer with a sledge hammer :s.
