    Should I get psychiatrist help?

Ugh I don't know how I'm going to write this, but heres a go at it.

Well, my parents got married in Brazil since that was where they were born so when they wanted to get a divorce they had to go back to Brazil. So my family moved to Brazil when I finished the 6th grade, not only was the fact that I had to leave all my friends behind and start a new life in a completely different country the reason for me moving was for my parents to get a divorce. I lived for 2 years in Brazil and those were the 2 worst years of my life. Both of my parents saw how unhappy me and my brother were while we lived there, so they decided to move back to the USA as soon as the divorce was over, and it took 2 years to be finalized because the Brazilian legal system is so screwed up.

I haven't seen my dad in person for 2 and 1/2 years now and its killing me inside. My dad still lives in Brazil and i live with my mom in the USA, and my mom doesn't have intentions of letting me see my dad anytime soon. I need to talk to someone but I don't feel i trust anybody enough with such a touchy subject. I've tried talking to my mom, but whenever we talk about my dad all she does is talk shit about him and that makes me burst into tears instantly.

So basically i just want to know who i could talk to about this because i feel that i have to get it off my chest and talk to someone.

    Thank you soo much everybody.

Tell your mum she is hurting you, every mum cares for their children and you need to just tell it to her face.

If you need someone to talk to first though I'm a very good listener and if you want to talk to me PM me and I'll give you my msn and we can talk much more there.

You definitely need a psychiatrist. Divorce is brutal on the children, and you could potentially carry on these issues for years unless you get some closure on it now. It'll be hard trying to trust the psychiatrist at first, but after a few sessions you'll grow accustomed to it, and you'll start to open up more and more without even realizing it.

And hell, if you still don't want to, feel free to add my msn. I'd be more than willing to listen.

Thanks both of you, and Shoopadoop my mom does care about me, but she hates my dad. She knows it hurts me because she sees me start to cry when she talks about my dad. Also thats a reason why i dont feel comfortable talking to her about these things anymore. Everything else im fine talking to her about.

Another thing is that im a 16 year old boy with no job, and i dont think i could afford a psychiatrist. Should i ask my mom to pay for one for me?

If that's the case then I would recommend a psychiatrist indeed.
You can try looking for a free psychiatrist, but I doubt you'll find one in such a short time. You can how ever try looking for some psychiatric advice on the internet. Just use Google and see what you can find. :)

Yup it'll be good to talk to one. They will listen to you attentively and hear out all your problems and offer invaluable advice ( that's their job ).

Also, you can try the school's counselor.

I would try your school's counselor. A psychiatrist talks to you to learn if you have mental problems. This is clearly not the case; you just miss your father. For issues like these, a school counselor is much more appropriate.

Psychiatrists don't just look for mental problems... They solve your problems by asking the appropriate questions and listening to what you have to say; eventually giving you the answer to your problem.
But.. The school counsellor does sound like a good idea, assuming that you are still in school and even have a school counsellor.

    Should I get psychiatrist help?

I always find it easier to talk to someone I don't really see every day, or someone I can't see at all even.

If you feel comfortable doing so, I would pick an understanding member of this board to speak with and get comfortable with first. Others have offered to help and listen, and I am too.

Once you're comfortable with one of us, move on to your school counselor. Get comfortable speaking with them, and share what's bothering you. Try to find a way to solve it that will make you feel better. There's no need to let something like this affect you for the rest of your life when it can be solved now.

If the counselor can't give you closure, move on to a psychiatrist. They are professionals who won't judge you and are your best chance at gaining closure and living the rest of your life without looking back.

    Should I get psychiatrist help?

I am at school right now and reading this during lunch, and I'm going to try to make a meeting with my councelor to see if it helps. The hard part about getting a meeting with my counselor now is that the counselors are setting up the students schedules for next year and they migh be busy.

I'll post here if I can get a meeting with my counselor or not.

You can shoot me a PM, I understand your pain, I didn't see my father for over 2 years at one point, and I know how sensitive this is for you, PM me if you need someone to talk to and give you advice.

I don't believe in professional psychiatry. Find a trusted friend to talk to. I believe talking to a friend is a thousand times better. Why should you trust a man (or woman) you have so little to do with?

I also note that some people strongly believe in psychiatry and it works wonders for them, but I truly believe it's all mental and they could have achieved the same results with someone else if they had an open mind. Still, power to them.

I would be inclined to say that it would be beneficial for you to see a psychiatrist. Your obviously going through out traumatic experiences outside of your control.

However I would suggest you tell your mother, and if she still stands by her decision then she is rather ignorant. Every child deserves to see his father whether or not the mother agrees to let them.

In short I think you really need to talk to someone to vent out your frustrations and a psychiatrist will let you do just that.

The divorce is completely out of his control, which was the prelude to his current situation.
