Well we all know sites like facebook and google share our information. The question is how much is to much? Do they have the right to share information like where we live, products that interest us , our hobbies etc with other companies. If we post it on the internet does that mean we are giving companies the right to sell this information?

you decide how much is too much when you click "I Agree".

they are almost expected to adhere to human nature and the greed that comes with it. therefore, they are expected to sell your info.
you gave them the right when you clicked "I Agree"

my old friend got caught impersonating a police officer from facebook pics. he was dressed as a cop for halloween.

i am not saying that they should have all ur info. i am saying it is natural for them to get it any way they can.

    info is money.

but in the same sense when you walk into the public it gives me the right to watch what your doing so is me sitting ontop of a building with binoculars watching you type in your credit card pin alright?

My point is that the government should draw a line because my personal info should not be given to these companies it's the reason why I refuse to use facebook!

lol, governments have much much less power than they used to have, what with international corporations and all.

people take precautions to safeguard their info. as invasive techniques progress, so will these safeguarding precautions. it is technological evolution.

does anyone else see a contradiction here?

he states the government has more power than i realize and then immediately goes and points out a failure of the government to do something that should be in their power to do.

True true but I guess what I'm saying is that their getting closer and closer to passing these drastic laws such as public health care, black list on the internet, legalizing marijuana"already legal in some states",don't ask don't tell and their using the events like the economic crisis and 9/11 to cover them up.

As long as they don't give any credit card details, etc. I could care less, my email has so much crap in my junk folders because of sites selling information.

And yes the internet is for the whole world so I'm not sure who would be able to put website information selling against the internet laws. (Don't know what the actual internet laws are called so don't point that out :p)

The answer is simply that it's in their tou, which you agree to when you sign up.

Obviously to be exceptionally picky in law you could completely void this on a case by case basis, however the truth is they can, do and are allowed to according to their tou sell off your information.

I think its unethical, however, thats life.
Every year we hand more and more of our civil liberties away without realizing it. I hope one day that there will be the form of government called "Libertarianism" Our current democratic style of government has only one thing in common; corruption.

Now before I drift off point any further, if you live in America the government has completely signed away your civil liberties with 'The Patriot Act' They can tap your phones look at your emails for any "National Security" matter.

In this age, proof and information is everything and yet we just sign it away.

You are so very very wrong. Everyone assumes the 'government' has a lot of power... but no one branch of the government has enough power to do shit to you. It takes their collective approach to fuck you. If the FDA didn't cooperate with the FCC and vice-versa... then marijuana promotion videos would be permitted on T.V.

My point here is, you assume that our government is big brother... The problem with your theory is that EVERYONE assumes that the government is like big brother. An even bigger problem with that is... you're looking far too hard. Plain and simple, these are all people. And while there's always going to be some form of corrupt individuals, the entire system is not corrupt.

Polls are not 'rigged'. People are not 'killed' for finding things out. The government is not planning to assassinate 3/4ths of its people. And EVEN IF the president and anyone else ATTEMPTED to do something like this... the military is not the government. I know thousands of sailors from either personal friends, friends of family, or friends of friends... Your military is not corrupt. And what happens if your government starts killing people? It ceases to exist. The military gains control, and while a military state would SUCK with restrictions, you can pretty much rest safely at night knowing men with big guns will kill anyone out after 9 pm. Lol.

As for the internet stealing and sharing info. Anything you put on their site is their property. Instead of randomly signing up for websites, try reading Terms of Service or Privacy Policy's. They're actually quite interesting.

Maybe one day America will become purely corporate. We'll run on business, and fair trade, and everything will be governed through a system of managers and adept individuals. :p

I have a dummy email that I always use to sign up to sites. Along with this I always provide fake information unless the source is reputable (Microsoft, paypal etc)

The government has all the power they want. They control us. If the military ever seized control well... Look at all those countries that have had that happen.

Your last statement implies that America is currently not corporate. They run on the opposite of business and unfair trade, and the things that are governed are governed by useless individuals.

Rule #1 of the Internet: They can only share what they have, whatever you enter/upload onto the internet can be assumed to be in the public domain.

Don't assume by reading bullshit ToS'es that they'll abide by it, fighting to suppress it etc. will give you a nice reaction known as the Streisand effect.

Did I just see "Microsoft and Paypal" as reputable in the same sentence?
