I read part of it, it really intrigued me. I am still reading it but don't expect to be done any time soon.

 

I still don't understand why you need 1,905 pages. Yoou think he could of kept it under 1000 pages...

 

The things people do for publicity...

 

If you read the first several pages it says how this will probably just get lost and people wouldn't care. Do a little bit of reading before making blatant statements.

 

Wow, this is absolutely amazing. I plan on reading the entire thing, though it will take me a long time.

 

Because publicity is useful when your dead? Spam.



He seemed to know pretty far in advance that he was going to do it, considering the book is nearly 2000 pages long. Has anyone been far enough into the book to see if its like an AutoBiography or what?

 

Interesting way to go out, but I also think he did it for publicity.

 

You don't gotta be alive to be well known.

 

You've either gotta be alive, or do something pretty great to make it last though. This, not so great though it is special. The publicity wont last long. And i think its ok to assume a HARVARD student would realize that. Also,

 

I saw an article on this a little while ago. They called it the first great philosophical work in 100 years. I didn't know it was online, but I'll be reading it now. Thanks

 

Wow, this is amazing. Truly a great philosophical piece...too bad most of it is beyond my understanding, and its length is extremely long.

 

It talks about society and the problems with it. It also talks about god and other religious views. From what I can see it doesn't talk a lot about his life.

 

Wow that is amazing, just weird that he committed suicide.

 

I agree he had a GREAT mind, i don't get why he killed himself...

 

From what I can tell he believed that death was something you should embrace and it is the most important part of your life. He saw no purpose here on earth but death was filled with mysteries that he wanted to to pursue.

 

The the first poster said it does seem like an attempt at getting some publicity - however you're right and I will try read it.

He's got an incredibly interesting theory I've wondered it as well, however death is inevitable so whats the rush?

 

He stated that life was useless and that death is the great step to what ever belonged afterwords. He didn't want to "waste his time" here on earth when there were great mysteries out there to be solved.

 

Too smart for his own good it seems.
Sad though.

 

Sometimes it's hard for me to make a story in about 200 pages.
But 1900+ pages is just crazy..

 

truly interesting. i plan to engross myself into this book for some time.
I will try to apply psychological theories and comment on the varies theories presented.

I love how he makes an immediate connection between the structure of religion and the current structure of modern society and its views towards the technological movement.
It is interesting to think of how a governing structure(such as religion) can coerce us to forgo our primal instincts to show selective favoritism towards kin and bring out a more socially progressive nature and ideology.


he states how rationalism logically leads to nihilism and how this stage is constituted as a crisis point in our lives.
this rings incredibly true. you can not believe anything, not even your senses if you are truly rational. I truly love how he points out that this is the one critical flaw of rationalism. to be truly rational is to forgo its very purpose.
