Gift is prop less secure than claimcancel. But doing claimcancel is much harder than it used to be. Try it out. Try to file a claim and cancel.

Ralle, its very difficult. You should have taken pictures of everything, even pics of the recovery information, do a recovery, post the tracking id, take pics of it. If a mod or staff member questions it, send them the information(hopefully you got a pic of the seller giving you the account info, to proove its the same information)
You can always recover it, if the info works. And take a pic of the "last logi:" to get the ip to proove it, etc.

About the part where you say you go along with a scam to get a scammer banned to get more proof. exactly what proof would be needed to get them banned?

I would always google the paypal address they are asking you to send $ to, do research on it.
Aswell as google their account name they are selling to you, see if its been scammed before(reported posts)

Take pics of it all.

Doesn't Paypal not support virtual goods? And how can I prevent/win and unauthorized dispute where the buyer uses a VPN?

 

You cannot prevent it.
Always make sure they are not on a vpn (Ask to view their screen)
If they dispute it, just call paypal and explain your story.
If the dispute was a few days after the payment, tell them "Why did they take # days to dispute it? You get an email everytime you send money"


EDIT: The buyer is not supported, if it's for virtual goods.
