Removing Star Ratings on Threads

Currently you can rate your own thread, which defeats the purpose in some aspects as people can just give their threads 5 star ratings. Competitors will give other threads 1 stars for no other reason then to make them look worse.

Either the entire star system should be removed completely, or you can only rate a thread if you post in it.

Well, when you browse through the list of threads in a section like the Markets and see that one of them has a 1 star rating, wouldn't you assume that something "fishy" was going on there?

I don't even remember how to make threads with star ratings.

Only one of them has that enabled and I made that thread over a year ago.

Plus I don't even know how to rate threads lol...

Don't base threads off of ratings because a lot of them don't even have ratings enabled.

If you see a 1 star thread you'll go to the 5 star thread instead even if it costs 1m more, just because you see the 4 extra stars.

No, I'm not saying all people do this (^^), but it would definitely give the people who rate their own threads 5 stars a higher chance of getting the sale.

Yeah, they are not legit, that's what's "fishy".

1 rate out of 5 would only be 1/5th of it.

So even if that 1 rating from the OP was 5 stars, and the other 4 were bad, that thread would only have 2/5, that is, 2 stars out of 5.

No support, the ability to rate threads is the only way you can express your opinion on threads without getting an infraction. Why take that away for some retarded reason?

It's one of the less used feature on this forum, I think.
Either I don't really care if it gets removed or if it stays.

 

Anyone basing a thread on what rating it has should be shot, its almost as bad as people thinking alot of vouches is necessarily good.

Couldn't there be some sort of record function, much like an edit post, which shows who rated the thread, and how much they rated it by, (for mods+ only to view), that way, if a business competitor rates their opponents thread 1/5 in the hope that it effects their business, they should be infracted.

 

I kinda like this idea, tbh. I'm not sure it's feasible with the current vB we have, though.

People can see how many votes have been placed - if one person has voted for 1 star then there is no reason for it to be taken into account.

If 50 people have voted for it, a more accurate average tending towards the actual state of the thread will be achieved. This way people with trusted threads can be easily recognized (the start system seems to be better at pointing out GOOD threads than bad ones)

if a thread has only 1 rating, at 5 stars we can assume it was the OP
if it has multiple ratings the OP rating wouldn't matter anyways as the truth will come out in the average of ratings
