Ok due to the recent spike in phishers and their increasing efforts to both phish , RAT and java drive by others I think it's time imposed a breif run thro on what each thing is an does and some tips on how to prevent it from happening to you.

First off I'll star off with phishing, phishing pretty much looks like a legit site that you normally put Your password into, most of the good ones (especially the noreply@jagex emails that are floating around) are quite convincing in leading you to believe that you are logging onto the norm runescape site. Once you lOg on in there fake site it will send your password an username (sometimes your ip) to the phishers FTP or website host or even email.

Most phishers tho are kids and don't know how to bust out the big guns, you will most likly see these kids at a semi packed world in GE spamming join my runEscape clan "it's rs-forum 738472 . C()m / godwar topic" no spaces.. To be honest if yOu fall for that you deserve it.

RATs are remote adminitrator tools which are most of the time tiny iny weeny Iti bitty files that are spread thro most torrent sites an spammed under YouTube descriptions. Once you click on someones RAT server you become a slave they have full access to your computer and can keylog you, make you their proxy (use your IP), turn your webcam off delete your hsrddrive anything they want to do. Now once yo have a RAT all I can suggest is to take your pictures and other personal and important info off and reformate, it's just the best way to make sure, if this isn't an option you should go to www.download.com an get yourself a key scrambler , this will make your keys show up as different keys while entering passwords the only down fall for this is that this don't work on java applets like runescape. Also put a master password on your Mozilla + change your password using a key scrambler and they are unlikely to get much info.

DO NOT SAVE PASSWORDS in a folder in your email.. Your msn is probably the most common thing to be hacked and if you have remember your password ticked it shows up on their keylogger.

Check for seemingly new process running most blend with common files like explorer or firefox or chrome so if you see some extra ones don't be afraid to end process.

Java drive bys the act of installing s RAT or keylogger with just a quick and simple trick. You all know those little pop up screens that drop down and say java is required please install leavin you an option of yes and
No and cancel? If you click yes make sure you check the liscnesing on it, check your site address bar an make sure you are on the trusted site.

Now this is just a start, i just wrote this out on my iPhone as I'm bored as and doing nothing, when I get home I promise to add pictures and make it more

Best to have AVG as a virus protection =) also I use google chrome since it fast, and only click Java from runescape only!

 

I made another one with pictures an that, i did this off my iphone an didnt see it when i got home (like 4 hours gap) so i made another one, Im sorry to for i guess double topic posting , but in the newer one there is pictures of examples an i go into a touch more detail an there is a hell of alot less mistakes

 

I use AVG currently and have been for a while and it failed me. I found out about this thing called "Malewarebytes" which is one of the best things around that detects basically anything other scanners cant including all those other nasty things, hence the name malware lol. I installed it, ran a scan and it found out 26 infected objects including a trojan. So yeah if you guys do have another virus protector you seriously should download this one as well.

 

You could use almost everything, but.
If i was you i would download something called "SAS - Super Anti Spyware" It will help you remove viruses, if you get some.
But i prefere Microsoft Security Essentlials.

If they are getting java drive by'd then they can be RAT'd.

Thread is informative but untill you fix it up with colour or space it out more my eyes bleed trying to read the wall of text
