Man, if it's real, appearance means nothing.

Bro, you beat the odds and survived, non-mentally handicapped.
I would say that you're a badass; a real man and you DEFINATELY deserve respect for that.

I never expected so many positive responses, I've gotta say, it really does make me feel a lot better. I guess I sometimes just need responses outside of family. If that makes sense?

Yeah, sometimes family support seems like it's just because they are family.

My cousin got into a bad bar fight 5 years ago and had scars (from broken bottles being used) on his neck, upper back, arms and one on his cheek; he's rebounded back after being in the hospital for a little while and now uses it as a joke all the time. Keep your head up and try to stay positive; you've beaten the odds and made it out unscathed mentally, you could definitely have a real relationship. Some girls actually think scars make you look tougher. :)

From the looks of the pictures of 1 month after and current, it looks like, in time, the swelling will have gone down significantly. Just believe in yourself and be confident. It's just the same as if someone had like a huge mole or something... Cosmetics. No bit deal... Just be strong! :)

Being depressed doesn't solve nothing mate, however you feel doesn't matter because it won't change the scars or swelling you've got. You're lucky to be here, so be confident and be proud.

Venom... That wasn't helpful. If you were in the situation, you'd be the same way. It's easy to tell someone to forget about something. Be a little more sensitive than that.

Your story is inspiring, simply because you were given a second chance at life. Your strength is amazing I can tell already, so just keep your head up. I too suffer from scarring, I lived a rough life as a youngster and it is hard to maintain confidence. Of coarse you will get ladies and have a chance at a normal life. Just don't let appearance effect the type of person you are inside. Because essentially someone will love you for who you are. It's unconditional.
I turned my scarring around and became proud of the fact I survived the odds. The odds were very against you bro, and you had the strength and help to pull through. Never be ashamed of that. Be proud of it. Scarring or not if I died and came back as a squirrell even I would live life to the fullest. So live life to the fullest man, you were given a second chance for a reason.

Trust me man keep your head up. I got elbowed in the mouth in a soccer game and have a pretty small scar on my lip but girls always think i got in fights and shit. Trust me if a girl bases you off your looks then shes not a wifey, you want a girl that will love you for who you are despite your appearence. Look at Seal and heidi klum :p Trust me a great personality goes a lot farther than looks do in the long run because when your 80 years old going bald looks won't matter much. Hold your chin up and know that god has a reason for everything

I try and usually succeed in being very positive. As I mentioned, I'm more than thankful for being here. And while I'm not religious, I am a theological agnostic. Meaning I believe in a greater being or God, and I do have faith that God has a reason for what has happened. I guess from time to time it's easy for life to get the better of me. Forgot to mention, I broke my nose as well, so if you can make out a rather odd bump on it in any of the pictures, well, now you know why.

    Here's the car I totaled:

And here are a couple pictures from today, as the ones posted earlier are quite old:

Also, if you're looking to get rid of the scars down the road; try looking into plastic surgery.

Hate to be an ass, but it's going to be very hard. We live in a society where people that are disabled have a difficult time.

Honestly, looks do matter. I know people always say they don't, but truly they do. It's just the society we live in. However, those scars aren't bad, and you truly look fine. If you find the right girl, it won't matter. She'll love you for who you are, just stay confident bro. Truly inspiring story. :) Stay strong.

i have a friend that fell climbing a fence and the spike from the fence pierced his neck and a little bit of the jaw, hes always had this swollen scar since like middleschool *7-8 years ago but i saw him a few weeks or months ago and it looked completly gone

i didnt ask because it was always a touchy subject for him but there are ways on removing the appearance even by a little.

Err, I'm not disabled. Maybe I look disabled I guess? My right arm is a bit slow, but I've been through loads of therapy and really have nothing that keeps me from working or a normal life.

Also, oddly enough, I got asked on a date by a friend I've had for nearly all twenty years of my life. So, it seems worrying about a relationship was pointless, as now I've even got the girl I've wanted for nearly five years.

I agree with Perros, you look fine :) just a bit of swelling which will eventually go down, and the scars will fade with time. I think if you find somebody who loves you for who you are, not how you look, anyone can have a happy relationship. I mean, i've been in a relationship for almost 2 years now. im 17, and me and Sarah have been through a lot, as her Mum died last year of Cancer and her Dad has been depressed his whole life. My girlfriend now lives with me because her dad has moved to Scotland. Anyway. the point is, there is nothing wrong with the way you look. You will find someone who loves you, just like everybody else :) if you ever wanna chat, just add my msn. [email protected] :) smile dude :) you're alive :D
