Say your MSN is hacked. The scammer does the above situation with a friend. You now owe the "victim" 3 billion GP.

Yes, I understand now. If you see my above post, you see that I am not sure if this will benefit us but I am aware of all the scamming that happen through this. I don't think I would support this, sorry Nate.

EDIT: Isn't getting your MSN hacked, you fault? I am not sure on how the hacking works but it can't just be done without the owner's stupidity, right?

At least sythe.org members can't scam, its just the hackers at this point. Like I said, if you publicly state your email address, be prepared to take that risk.

I would rather take my chances on a trusted member not scamming, then a hacker scamming. Just common sense really. Just saying now publicly, if my MSN is ever hacked and kids dont get a PM like it says 3 times on every thread, then Ill take my ban.

If it was hacked within 12 hours then FireZ has a virus, or someone is listening to his activity. Also it is your own ignorance because nobody FORCED you to use gmail.com. You chose to use Gmail because it was convenient for you at that given time. It can be recovered in under a hour, at any time, with minimal information. I have stated this before, which is why i did NOT change my email to gmail.

I don't see the problem. It wouldn't be hard to make a sticky in market sections saying " ALWAYS ASK FOR A PM ".

E-mails are too easily hacked, you shouldn't be able to say it's the owner fault. Even if it DOES say in a thread that It's theirs.

PM's take a whole 2 seconds to do, and with the amount of money it could save, why not.

If some newcomer decided to not abide by the rules, and doesn't ask for a PM, thats totally on him.

I excluded gmail since it's the first time I've heard of any issues with it. I don't know what password FireZ used, when the last time he ran a virus scan was, what security questions he set, whether he used his real address, etc - only he can really say for certain whether the flaw was entirely with gmail.

Even so, I didn't say that it was his fault for being hacked. I simply said that you can't create such a huge loophole. If an MM decides to scam, you can't expect them to be the ones to remind traders to demand a PM.

This rule would make trusted members into scammers, because they can get away with it. Basically if any new unknowing member trades with you and doesn't accept a PM, he would be fair game.

So its the paradox of are we going to trust the trusted users, or give the hackers free reign to rack up as large a bill as they can for the victim to pay back.

Fair enough. I use complex passwords, different for every website, daily virus scans from 3 different softwares, and fake info on everything. If my gmail was ever hacked, it will not be my fault at all, and as such I wont repay anyone who failed to request a PM as I state very clearly everywhere.

There would be much more damage if this was implemented, then what the hackers would do. Only once in a while does someone get hacked, and even when they are hacked, scams don't always happen. However, if this rule was allowed, anytime a member doesn't ask for a PM, you can claim to be hacked and scam at will.

As I said twice already, if you aren't willing to back up your email address, don't make it public and make new ones constantly.

Feel free to tell me a foolproof method to not have it hacked, and ill gladly do it. Until then, if it gets hacked and people are scammed and dont get a PM, I wont be responsible.

Why is it that msn's can just magically be hacked? I haven't heard any depth of how this can happen. It's not like you can just instantly take an email and get the password to it. I'd like to hear some depth on that one.

That's complete bullshit. There isn't ever a foolproof method, its what we deal with. We are trusted because we stand for no scamming under any circumstances, even if we do have to refund to appease the victims.

You give someone with half a brain access to my MSN for one hour, and they can scam upwards of 20B if the people dont get a PM. Wouldnt be my fault, and if people cant honor my request to get a PM, then they are shit out of luck since I wont be forking out $20k to repay idiots.

K sorry Nate read the whole thing instead of skimming, Yea with the disclaimer it would be ideal as people would know what to expect, but what about changing request a pm to, seller pm's regardless of request? that way those who normally don't request would slowly catch on teaching them in the process.

Sythe's old irc. Maybe somebody could ask him to bring it back? I did a trade with marrow in it and it worked out fine.
