    Surgery

I fractured 2 different bones in the elbow area and my elbow is dislocated so I'm going to have surgery on Tuesday. The main break is to the radio head. Part of the bone broke off and moved away. They said I'll probably get screws or they will replace the broken part with something artificial.

I kinda hit one of those cement things that are on the parking lot that tell you where to stop your car while I was on my bike. When I hit it, I flew off and fell on my elbow.

I never had surgery and I was wondering how it went for anyone who had it.

I was in and out of hospital a lot as a kid, with varying surgical procedures, and from my experiences I can tell you going to hospital isn't as bad as people think. It's all very professional, and you'll most likely have a friendly doctor.

Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly. Broken arm bones aren't the most complicated surgery, the hospital has probably done hundreds of them.

    Where are you from?
I've had surgery 3 times. I hate hospitals.

Well i live in the Uk ive only ever had surgery once which was on my neck as a child to have several lumps removed. To be honest once you are put to sleep you won't feel anything until you wake up, don't worry too much it will be over before you know it.

I live in the Texas Panhandle and I know from personal experience I dislocated my shoulder skateboarding and the procedure was very painless and I was on anesthetics the whole time.

It's all the same when you're drugged up ;) I promise. Don't worry. You'll be fine. Surgery is way over-hyped. Just make sure you get to go out to eat after it's over! :)

I'm not too worried about the surgery. I'm worried about my arm and how good the movement in it will be afterwards. They said physical therapy should help, but even then, there is a slight chance things might not work out.

That slight chance is just that - A slight chance. Don't worry. I know someone who broke his arm in 6 separate places and walked away from surgery with only 12% movement in his arm. He is now able to extend it past 180 degrees (fully extended)

The surgery is nothing to be afraid of. they will do either local anesthesia or full. I'm betting on full if they gonna use screws.
went through 2 surgerys myself. The shitty part is when the drugs wear off. its painfull sometimes. But you can ask for painkillers if you can't stand the pain.

Same thing happened to my foot :)
Dislocated and fractured it. I'll post pictures of mine later

You should be thankful that you're in the States where the doctors/surgeons actually care if it hurts or not. In my country, they just say that anything that hurts is fine, as long as it doesn't cause any more damage.
I hurt my foot at a US military base, and they took care of it as if it were the most fragile thing in the world when they moved it around and took xrays is it.
Assholes in the Korean hospitals didn't.

It may take a while to recover, because you will have to regrow the muscles and regain the flexibility for moving it. But it'll be fine

It'll hurt a bit when the anesthetics wear off right after the surgery ends but other than that, you'll be perfectly fine.
It'll just be a bit uncomfortable with your arm in a cast for a while.

The first ER I went too was some small shitty place. They didn't have an X-ray person there, she was on call. When she got there, she was cranky and stuff because they probably woke her up, so she handled me without a care in th world.

    I'm in Irving, Dallas.

Yeah, they are putting me completely under.

I had surgery on my back when I was 13-14.

I had some metal rods put in my spine, the surgery lasted around 4 hours and I was asleep all that time.

It did hurt when they'd finished but that's because it was quite a big surgery.
