    Need a Tech head, 50Mbps or 300?

    What's up Sythers :)D)

When it comes to internet routers and all that shit, im useless; so..

My Wireless Wifi adapter runs at about 48Mbps.
I'm looking at one on Ebay that runs at 300Mbps.

Would it mean the 300Mbps would be faster? and would it have to match the model of my router?

    *mind explosion*

    Help please :)

You don't need to upgrade unless your ISP offers more than that and then it'll actually become useful. Take it as your ISP offering 40 gallons/hour and your pipe can handle 48 gallons/hour ; there's absolutely no use in upgrading to a 300 gallons/hour pipe if you're still only getting 40 gallons/hour.

Most likely it doesn't matter at all because I doubt you get over 48mbps DL/UL speeds. Go with the 48. Higher capacity won't change anything at all.

Ok let's say your paying your ISP (internet service provider) for 100mbps, you use a conventional wire towards your modem or a conventional router and connect a desktop computer to it. Also you connect another computer via wireless to the same modem/connection using your wireless wifi adapter as well. Your connection speed on your computer on the wifi is registering at 48mbps, meanwhile your desktop would get 100mbps...mindf*ck right? No. Your internet speed is 100mbps and not to be confused with your local speed for your internal network. The signal your wireless computer gets is weaker for a reason.

You CAN increase your local speed by purchasing the new router for 300mbps, you will not gain the full 300mbs for two reasons. First you will lose speed because wireless is half duplex rather than full duplex, this essentially means it communicates taking turns, where as a full duplex (wire) can communicate both ways easily using various lines in the cord. Secondly your connection speed is limited to the service you get from your ISP.
Therefore you can gain around 150mbps to a maximum of your internet connection speed you pay for. Which in this case both connections will run 100mbps, assuming you bought the router.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, this is just off the top of my head.
