    INTRODUCTION

A new Linux user has probably found with a big problem when installing Windows programs (.exe files). So this is why I'm creating this guide, and I'll explain the importance of the program that helps us so much when downloading programs that cannot be opened in Linux. It's called Wine.

    MORE INFO ABOUT WINE

(.exe) files are very used in Windows. The problem is that Linux cannot open these. So what Wine actually does is that it creates an invisible partition in your hard-drive, with the essencial Windows files. So when you download a .exe file, you can choose opening it with Wine, like it you where opening it with a normal Windows PC. Configuration will change only to thing related to the program; for example, your cursor will change to the original Windows cursor when you move it to the program. Check the picture:

    HOW TO INSTALL WINE

To install this insane program, we'll need to open our Terminal, which can be found Applications > System Tools > Terminal

    Then, we must type:

    Code:
    su

Continued by our root password, which was set when we first opened our Linux.

    Then, type:

    Code:
    yum install wine

You must accept all permissions and wait 4-5 minutes. If an error message shows up, then try typing:

    Code:
    yum upgrade

    And try...

    Code:
    sudo apt-get wine

    Good! We now have Wine!

HOW TO OPEN A FILE WITH WINE

If we double-click on a .exe file when we already downloaded Wine, it'll still won't open. To open a file using Wine, follow these steps:

    - Right-click on our .exe file

    - Select "Open with..."

    - Scroll to the bottom and look for "Wine Windows Programs..."

    - Double-click on it

Now we have our .exe file opened!

PROGRAMS THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD ONLY WITH WINE

There are some programs that don't support Linux, that aren't a, for example, .rpm file. So we'll have to use Wine to download them. Here are some:

    - Spotify (download page here)

    - More to come

    Thanks for reading!
