    First VPS/Botting Experience

I'm posting this as a newbies first experience of setting up bots for 2 reasons. 1) in order to help others who want to do the same
    2) to get some of my questions answered and tips from others with more experience.

I have been reading about botting and vps services and gold farming for the past couple days and decided to give it a try. I dont need the money to sell for cash, but i would like to turn a cheap investment (in this case approx $28) into untold millions in rsgp.

First off, i'll share with you my views and what I was thinking when I made my decisions, then i'll get to questions that I have, and finally my assessment of the whole experience thus far.

So I like playing rs in my free time, but ive always found myself needing cash to level up certain skills. As soon as free trade came out I thought great I can just buy it off someone else...but then I started reading about botting your own on sythe and I found it much cheaper and way more efficient. You dont have to deal with scammers, and if you do it smart you dont have to worry about jagex banning you either.

So I decided what the hell ill try it. I started doing a few hours of research...eg) what methods should I use, how much is it going to cost, how could I mitigate risk, etc etc... Once I found all these answers I decided to find out how much the initial investment was going to cost me. So I made a list of things I would need:

    1) VPS
    2) Bot authos
    3) Accounts

After searching through forums I found an VPS service that caught my eye..or rather a couple. The toss up was between photonvps and seerhost. In the end I decided Seerhost for a couple reasons. First off it was cheaper (about $16 a month) and second it already had my bot client installed on it therefore there was minimal hassell on my part to get this thing running. By picking seerhost there were also positive externalities that came with that. It was tailored specifically for botting so you wouldnt have to worry about getting shut down by your provider (as Ive read in other posts), and also im assuming its a lot smaller than photon and less known (which is great this means its not mainstream and therefore less likely to be busy and packed). Finally I also assume since this is specifically for botters I thought maybe the infrastructure of the servers and programs used would be optimized for botting performance..at more so than the average provider...of course this is just an assumption. So once I decided the provider I had to decide on what I needed...I heard for sorc both from reading it takes about 500mb for each one to use and as I'm not looking for a huge profit I decided 1gb was enough (plus I dont want to invest too much into this...this is strictly for personal use). That came out to about $16 month which was not bad (roughly the membership cost of wow or netflix with 2 dvds). Especially when you compare to other vps providers (cough cough photon).

Next was the bot authos. This was an easy decision to me because almost everyone uses rsbots.net. The decision was made even easier when a friend gave me his sorc bot authos....Total money spent $0. Next subject.

Now this was a big dillemma for me I didnt know how deep I wanted to invest myself with this. I knew (because I was an economics major) that most young companies fail because of inexperience and trying to expand too fast. So I decided to go with my instinct and start small. Two accounts would be enough and If i wanted to go bigger later I would, but for now I wanted to mitigate risk as much as possible and if everything went to hell..well i wouldnt lose to much. Cost was approx $12 for 2 memberships. This brings me to my next decision about the accounts...should I buy them or just do them myself. I decided in the end to do it myself...again for 2 reasons 1) it was free and 2) security...I didnt want to get scammed from people taking back their accounts (mainly because of inconvenience).

Now on to the experience. Seerhost was great I couldnt be more happier with their service. I paid the money in 24 hours I was sent an email...setup literally took about 3 minutes (but i also minored in computer science and used putty and other remote desktop programs before) It was great. I accidentally paid twice and filed a ticket for them and within 5 minutes i got a reply back (this was like around 9pm cst) and the problem was solved. If someone is looking for a vps I HIGHLY recommend choosing seerhost. Its very user friendly...very cheap...and the servers arnt crowded at all.

also..Seerhost messed up because I ordered the bronze package (1gb) but when I logged in to see how much resources were being taken up by the sorc bot (global settings at max) i saw that I have the gold package right now (4gb)...shhhh dont tell anyone

Now to my questions for those of you who are experienced in botting:
    1) How many hours a day should I run my bot (I was thinking 12-16) to mitigate the risk of getting caught
    2) What is break schedule you guys use? can I get a copy of it?
    3) I have 200gb of bandwidth...will that last me for 2 months?

Overall this experience is going smoothly. comment if you guys have any tips for me or an answer to my question. Also for new guys if you need any questions answered also comment. Thanks everyone :D.

Cool to see another econ/compsci(/intelligent) guy these forums.

    As for your questions:
    1) How many hours a day should I run my bot (I was thinking 12-16) to mitigate the risk of getting caught

From what I've heard, you usually get banned for botting because someone reports you. Thus, less is always better, so it's more up to your risk aversion. In reality though, I don't think most sane people would play more than 16 hours a day, so that seems like a good limit.

    2) What is break schedule you guys use? can I get a copy of it?

Unfortunately, the bots I run are solely for experience, on accounts that I don't care about -- I usually suicide bot until I need my laptop for something or the internet connection dies. Haven't been banned yet.

    3) I have 200gb of bandwidth...will that last me for 2 months?

Yes. Runescape uses very little bandwidth. More exact numbers can be found in the VPS sticky.

Hope this helps. Your comments helped me, as I'm looking for a VPS provider.

I always buy the cheapest VPS and it laggs out/doesn't work well, so I'm planning to buy a dedicated one.

    Just bot 24/7.
It doesn't matter if u do 12-16-24 hours.
If u got reported u will get banned.
Just trade ur supplies every day to ur main account.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It sounds like it worked out well for you. Especially considering you had zero experience, good job. The decision between seerhost and photon is a tough one, although I tend to sound biased I can say both are outstanding companies and you get your moneys worth.
As for auths rsbots.net is a good choice. If ever you chose to expand I also recommend rsbotting.com, they have some great paid bots that also use the Nexus client. As for your questions:

    1) 24 hours, with a stat sheet that looks like a botter, bank that looks like a botter, and with your character that acts like a botter...your all in already.
    2) No breaks for me, I would not recommend them for reason above.
    3) Bandwidth is allocated on a per month basis so you need only worry about 1, and yes you should be fine with a 1gb 2 bot set up.
