How to get money back if someone scammed?

So someone on craigslist was selling some gold, I said I would buy. I send $40 for 65M, he loggs of runescape and hangs up on phone.

I paid as a gift.

I used paypal on another ip VPN so just incase something does happen I could dispute an unauthorized transaction and say I never sent $40 to anyone.

This guy calls back and says if I lift the dispute he will refund me, and if I don't paypal won't give back the money anyway and he won't either.

I told him that I knew he was trying to scam, he said his internet connection was bad and he sells gold all the time(I know it's a lie)

What do you suggest me doing?

just charge. When you dispute it you won;t be able to get your money back. how is your pp founded?

 

if you lift it you won't be able to get your money back. Just leave it you'll get your money back no worries.

 

Leave the dispute. If he's a scammer, it's likely he has many pending disputes, and Paypal will definitely side with the buyers.

 

Dont cancel the dispute. Dont trust him a second time make it a claim and you will get your money back however it will prob take 1-2 weeks.

 

Keep the dispute going he won't refund if you cancel it.
