    Want to Dunk?

6'5 and weighing only 150 already gives you an advantage since you are so tall and are light as a feather. You don't really need to add muscle mass to jump higher, although muscle mass does come with explosive training. Honestly 10 pounds will effect your jumping ability noticeably. Just strengthen up your legs and start plyometrics. If you've never worked out your legs before your going to see a dramatic increase in your jumping ability and fast, seeing how you can only touch rim given your stats.

Good luck and tell me how it goes after a few weeks

    Want to Dunk?

    First of all,

the best thing about the guide was that you chose to write it because you actually like basketball, and did not write it for the hell of it.

    Second,

    I just turned 14, I weigh around 138 pounds, and I'm 5"71.

I do have some extra fat laying around.

    Third,

I play lots of basketball, and get almost all the rebounds, but I still can't touch the net..

I have no access to gyms, so can I still be able to dunk when I turn around 16, without during plyometrics and such?

    Thank you very much,
    Pigbow.

    Want to Dunk?

It's a nice guide, but race does play a factor. The leg muscle build on black people is clearly different than any other races that is more suited for jumping.

Unlikely. If you're unable to touch net, in 2 years you won't be able to dunk if you don't put in work. If you want to jump higher you can't neglect plyometrics.

"Muscle build" has nothing to do with jumping ability.

I think you got a little spelling error here. Isn't it you're, not you?

Also, I think you should add the sources of your pictures below them. Much like KerokeroCola does. Here is one of his guides, click here to access it.

Oh, I love you guide by the way. Very well written and very informative. Good luck on your application! I hope you make it!

Does the height factor count a lot in this?

    Want to Dunk?

I'm fairly sure that there is a strong positive correlation which indicates that black people have more fast twitch muscles than white people, hence why I slightly disagree with the proposition that race has nothing to do with the ability to dunk. While it is ultimately the genes, black people carry this gene more prevalently.

However the guide it self, Top Quality A+

    Want to Dunk?

Yes. If you are taller you don't need to jump as high to dunk.

Very informative, looks like this would have taken you a while to write up. I'm in the process of getting my dunk together, so this will actually serve some purpose to me. Nice guide overall.

    Want to Dunk?

I'm gonna try use this guide to improve my vert.

Recently I've gotten into basketball again, and realize I can touch the ring.

However I've got a problem. I can jump higher off 2 feet than I can 1 foot, is this normal, or does this have a good explanation for this?
Also if it helps my vert is around 80cm, and I'm 5'10"

    Want to Dunk?

Yes it's completely normal. As said in my guide, there are two types of jumpers; one foot jumpers and two foot jumpers. I'm naturally a one foot jumper however to be honest i'd rather be better off of two feet. Jumping off of one leg constantly puts a lot of pressure on the knee over a period of time.

How are you measuring your vertical? I don't think you measured right.. 80cm translates to 31.5 inches, and usually people who have over a 30 inch vertical at your height can dunk with ease typically. In comparison, dunks in nba dunk contests are usually high 30 inch jumps.

    Want to Dunk?

Not the best way lol, in school every year they get us to record our Vert among other things.
It consists of standing near a brick wall, reaching as high as you can and marking the tip of your reach with chalk, then jumping as high as you can without taking a step and marking as high as you can. The distance between the 2 chalk height is considered your vertical jump.

Were you on your tip toes when you measured your standing reach? Was your one arm stretched out as far as possible or did you measure with two arms reaching?

    Want to Dunk?

Dominant arm stretched as high as you can, not on your tip toes. With shoes on.

    Want to Dunk?

To be honest I don't really know if standing reach should be measured tip toe or not, but really when you go on your tip toes right before your jump it gives you that added standing reach. Its like 2-4 inches between flat foot and tip toe.
