I am thinking of becoming an OSRS service provider and I have some questions in need of answering.

    Dear Sythe community,

I'm really glad I came across this place. I am a univeristy student and I will probably still be in school for the next 6-8 years if I decide to get a MA+PhD. In my particular situation having a full-time job is out of the question since I'm prioritizing studying and getting good grades.

Where I live, part-time jobs are becoming a rarity and are usually quite low-paid. (under 500 USD/month for 4-6 hours/day +1-2 hours for commuting). Since I am natuarlly introverted and OSRS is currently my favorite game I was trying to determine if becoming a service provider would be a good idea in my situation. Thus, I would hugely appreciate it if you could help me with some questions:

    1. Which services pay the most/hr? (I'm assuming services such as no-prayer fire capes, Inferno capes on special builds and Dizana's quivers offer on average the most money/hr since they're difficult to do and also have a chance of failure. Is my assumption wrong?)

    2. If, let's say, I were a worker who was really good at no-prayer fire capes and this was the only service I offered: would this be enough to find at least 1 client/day? How many requests/day does a good cape worker usually receive?

    3. If the no-prayer fire cape service wouldn't be enough to have 1 client/day, how many other things should I be good at to hit this target? If I were to offer fire cape+inferno+quiver servies, would this be sufficent to make a decent side-income, or would I still need to add other services since the demand for those is simply not that high? What other services should I add besides those?

    Thank you for your time!

you would be best to ask those that sell these services, via discord, and ask if they require help. From my experience, I have bought similar services and was put into a que of over a day, for infernals, and ect.

Keep in mind that if you choose to work for a provider (versus having your own business), you will likely be required to pay an anti-scam deposit to prove your genuine intentions. Therefore, make sure you have a significant amount set aside for this purpose.

Working for a large service provider means you will be competing with many other workers for job assignments. Most of these providers use a seniority system, so workers who have been there longer are more likely to get assigned jobs.

On the other hand, working for a smaller service provider means less competition for job assignments, but you may experience fewer opportunities until their business grows.

I wouldn't count on it as income that pays your bills at the end of the month. Get some real-life work experience, which you will need after uni. Maybe do it as a hobby in your free time.

I really appreciate your input. Working for a provider seems to be a great option until I gain experience, vouches and credibility, maybe even after I get established if that would help me get more clients.

The worker seniority system makes a lot of sense, but I wonder if it would be a good idea to increase my demand as a worker by offering to do the service for cheaper and that way the provider could make a bigger profit.

By far my biggest concern is the question of how many requests/day or week (on average) a good worker gets because I need to know if this will be a good investment of my time given my situation. For example, getting really good at no-prayer fire capes seems like a good time investment for me, but that is predicated upon my assumption that there is enough demand for it. If I put all of those hours getting good at it only to get like 1 request once every 2 weeks that might not be good enough for me because the income per month would not be enough to at least pay for my food.

That could be some really wise advice, thank you for having my best interest in mind. Although, this is exactly the reason I'm so interested in finding out how much a good worker makes: to see if servicing accounts would actually be a good decision. Plus, if I decide to go for the PhD route I will not even be allowed to formally have a job and the stipends are usually not that good and they can take from 4-6 years to complete.

Do not bother starting services full-time in 2024. Your competition is Venezuela with an average wage of 150$ per month :)
Your PdD is years away don't worry about it now. To add - a 2-hour commute is nothing.

I'm not looking to service full-time. Regarding the competition with Venezuela: how much does one get for 1 pray 1 def with low combat fire cape? Isn't that supposed to be in the 50-120 USD range? How much does one get paid for a Inferno cape on a pure account with low prayer? I might not live in Venezuela, but those prices are still very good for where I live. That is why I'm interested in concrete numbers. It could be the case that you are right and I can't compete with Venezuelans, but I need numbers.

Quick answers to ur questions, goodluck on the studies and welcome to sythe!

    Q: 1
A: Infernals are being botted, Quivers or 1 pray fire capes are probably the best bet.

    Q: 2
Build up vouches by doing them cheap and u can set whatever price u want in the future.

    Q: 3
A: Best bet is to just stick to one thing unless you have alot of free time and able to respond frequently.

Tip: 1 Pray capes until 30+ vouches then start offering Infernals and Quivers.

Suedi, I really appreciate you taking the time!

    1. Interesting. I think I've heard about this but I wasn't sure if they were fully botted or just assisted with plug-ins that go against the TOS. How big is the risk of getting banned if you bot the infernal cape? Does this mean that the Infernal capes are really cheap if they can be botted?

    2. Good advice. This is exactly what I plan on doing.

    3. How many requests/week of fire capes does a good worker usually get? Is it in the 1-3, 4-7, 7+ range?

Interesting! By high level PvM do you mean raids? If so I wonder why that would be...after all the most difficult PvM challenges are the Inferno and Quiver on special builds (low def, hp, prayer, combat, etc.) I wonder why those would be cheaper.

How much would you estimate those other high-level PvM pay?
